Storm Head to Lions Head and Host Shallow Lake Lakers over Weekend for Games #9&10
Atom Storm LL#1, Allan’s Fireside Grill, had another busy weekend of hockey.  They travelled up the peninsula to play the Bruce Peninsula Northstars#1 on Saturday in Lions Head, and were host to the Shallow lake Lakers on Sunday in Southampton.

Storm vs Northstars #1

The puck drops and the game was on, the Storm came out strong in the first but a body checking penalty against them early in the game threw the momentum off a bit.  The Storm killed the penalty with no problem and went back to work.  The game went back and for as both teams competed very hard against each other but another penalty put them down a man.  With just over a minute the Northstars got one past Ben on the power play and the storm were down 1-0.

The second period starts and the Storm came out hard.  There were many chances for them but they were not able to beat the Northstars goalie or get the passes through.  The game was all over the place in all three zones as both teams continued to battle hard.  Then in the last 2 minutes of the period some scoring picked up as the Northstars scored at 1:59, the Storm came right back with Jake netting one at 1:19 and Zac and Josh earning the assists.  Things seems to be looking good but some defensive issues allowed the Northstars to score again with 8.9 seconds left and the period ended with a 3-1 score.

The third started and the Northstars got one right away at 14:00 but Jake once again kept fighting and found the back of the net at 13:18 with Smiley and Ismail earning assist on the goal.   The storm kept the battle going but had some nice chances turned away or where unable to get the shot they wanted off.  Once again play was all over the rink and lots of pucks going to each net, Big save Benny made some great stops as did the other tender but Jake once again found the back of the net off a rebound from Smiley’s shot.  Jake getting the goal and Smiley with his second assist of the game at 7:18.  The Northstars came back at 6:33 and again with 29 seconds left and the final score was 6-3.

Jake Earned the Digger Award as he played hard all three periods and never gave up.  Great work Jake, we know you been waiting patiently and playing hard to wear the hat for a while now, congrats!!

Storm vs Lakers

Despite the great energy in the room prior to the game and a strong first half of the first period, things seemed to fall apart and the Storm found themselves down 3-0 at the end of the first.

As the second got underway the Storm found themselves again and started competing hard and battling the Lakers for the puck like they did in the first half of the first period.  They had shots on net some great passing out of our zone in the neutral zone and some real beauties going to the net.  The Lakers goalie once again was stellar but the storm kept trying and trying with nobody able to find the back of the net.  Despite a great period they were still down 3-0 at the end of the second.

After a great second period the Storm had regained their confidence and took to the lakes zone hard right off the bat, unfortunately the puck squirted loose  in the neutral zone and a Lakers player picked it up and skated the length to beat Ben to make the score 4-0.  This was not an issue for the Storm as they came on strong still and went to the net hard as we saw some beautiful passing plays but just not able to find the back of the net.  They had some great shots but just didn’t get to the rebounds in time. Even though this period had a really good effort and everyone skated hard and battled hard as well Ben shut the door with some great saves in the end of the game.  The game outcome was 4-0 for Shallow Lake.

This was a great game for the Storm as the team all worked hard and played and stuck up for each other as we all know Lakers games can get a little rough.

Smiley was awarded the digger as he skated his butt off all game long, battled hard along boards and went to the net hard with his stick down every time.  Great Job Smiley!!!

Next game and last one before the Christmas break is
