Port Elgin Home Hardware/Dunlop Bros. Fuels Novice Storm win two in league play

The Saugeen Shores Novice Rep Storm headed into the holidays with two big wins over the weekend.

First up was a home game in Southampton against Minto.  In the previous two meetings, the Storm were unable to hang onto leads in the third period and lost both games.  This time would be different.

Although Minto got on the board first, the Storm did not back down and tied the game on a nice goal by Eoin MacKay with an assist from Sam Elyea.  David Parsons scored the go ahead in the second after nice passes from Eoin MacKay and Sam Kozelenko.

Minto tied it up shortly after that and it became a see saw battle in the third as the teams traded goals again.  In the third, goals from Skyler Pomroy, Ray Hou and Nic Lalonde gave the Storm a 5-3 advantage.  Assisting on the third period goals were Eoin MacKay and Sam Kozelenko.

Playing desperate hockey, the Minto coach pulled his goalie in the hopes of making up the two goal deficit.  They managed to get one back, but the Storm battled in their own end to keep the puck out of the net.  Jarrett Blue made some key saves down the stretch to preserve the win, ending Minto’s domination of the Storm.

On Sunday, the Storm travelled to Durham for their first meeting of the season.  The team had to battle hard to come away with the victory, even though most of the play was in the Huskies’ end for a majority of the game.

The Huskies were on the board first in the second period which seemed to fire up the team after a late night Christmas party the day before.  Caelen MacDonald, Francesca Alpanjaro and James Fowler provided solid checking and passing to get their team back in the game.

Eoin MacKay scored an unassisted goal in the third to even the game up before Nic Lalonde scored the go ahead goal on a pass from Skyler Pomroy.

Sam Flarity and Corey Ribey played solid defense throughout the game to keep the puck away from the Storm end of the ice.

The Storm now take a well deserved break before returning to ice for a game against Durham on January 7th.
