Playoff Opener
The Scotiabank Novices opened the second segment to their season on a winning note over the Shallow Lake Team #1. Playing at home at The Plex on Valentine's Day, Scotiabank made the most of their opportunities, scoring in bunches on an opponent that kept trying until the final buzzer. As the game progressed and the final outcome became certain, the coaching staff had their players work on skills other than scoring to avoid running up the score. However, finding the back of the net was a new experience for some and when the opportunities presented themselves they did not want to be denied. Instituted for the playoffs by Coach Chris is the "Digger" award. This is presented after each game to the player deemed to have worked the hardest. The Scotiabank team have been referred to as a lunch-pail crew without individual stars so appropriately the Digger award is a construction hardhat. This game's honour went to Desmond Gouin. The playoff format does not seem to lean on the side of parity in the beginning which is unfortunate for some teams. Scotiabank ended the season in 5th place and are playing a round-robin with the 1st, 3rd, 7th, 9th, and 11th place teams. Depending on our record we will then play a team from the other group (2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, and 10th) in a best 2 out 3. The format continues to breakdown so stay tuned, there looks to be a lot of hockey still to be played. Next game is Tuesday, 6:30pm at The Plex vs Arran-Ellderslie.
