ATOM AE Defeats Howick to ring in the new year
Tibor's / Rosner's ATOM AE Team played a hard fought game against Howick on Monday night.  With a short bench, missing centre JD Barnard and forward Aidan Akerman, STORM had to dig deep and keep on their toes against a strong opposition.  Just 20 seconds in, Howick's Dustin Robertson stole the puck from STORM's defense and put one past goalie Cameron Plante.  Not to be deflated however, STORM came out fighting for the remainder of the period.  Netminder Cameron Plante had some great support by the defensive teams of Dereski/Wilkinson and Robertson/Olinskie who were effective in clearing the puck out of the defensive zone.  With 24 seconds left, Howick scored again, resulting in a 2 goal lead.  Second period was full of end to end action, and after some great playmaking by Coleton McNabb, Coleton Heipel drove one past Howick's goalie to bring the score to 2-1.  The third period was a showstopper, with STORM skating with grit and drive, fighting Howick for the puck in their drive for another goal.  With 4 minutes, STORM's offensive team stayed tough in the corner and won the puck, firing it out in front of the net to Owen MacKenzie who scored the tying goal (WAY TO GO OWEN!) assisted by Kenneth Bollen.  The game remained tied until the last minute of the game, when Malcolm Mcintosh capitalized on a number of near misses and fired a beauty past Howick's netminder putting Storm up by 1.  Final score was 3-2 for Saugeen Shores.  STORM looked hungry.  It was a hard fought win, and their strong effort and team play didn't let them down!  Way to go Storm.  Excellent game played by all.
