The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team was knocked out of the first round of the OMHA playoffs last week by Colllingwood.  The Collingwood Blackhawks took the best of five series in three games straight.  The two teams took to the ice for their first game on Saturday, Jan. 30th at the Plex in Port Elgin.  The Blackhawks seemed to take control from the first puck drop and the Storm struggled to find their groove for most of the game.  The Collingwood team did a good job at forcing the Storm team to play a mostly defensive game, keeping their offensive play to a minimum.  Collingwood would take home the 6-2 win.

The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team played a noticeably better game the next day in Collingwood, although the scoreboard would not reflect their efforts.  The Storm players did a good job at putting a dent in the Blackhawks strong offensive attack during the first two periods of the second game. The Storm was down 3-0 heading into the third and desperately trying to find the strong offensive skills that they had displayed in the not too distant past.  Despite the gritty efforts of the Storm players, the Blackhawks would walk out with a 6-0 win.

It was back to Saugeen Shores for the third game on Friday, Feb. 5th in Southampton.  The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team knew that the odds were against them but they weren’t about to go down without a fight.  This night the kids played a much different game than the first two. They came out skating hard and looked determined to play a better game than they had in the previous two outings.  Their grit and determination paid off as the fans were treated to a good competitive game of hockey.  The Storm players battled it out to the final minutes of the game but time would run out and they would have to leave with a 5-3 loss, ending their hopes of any chance of advancing to the next round of OMHA playoffs.

Next up for the BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team is a Home and Home series with Durham, Goderich, Hanover and Walkerton.

Go Storm Go!
