The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team completed their regular season on January 10th and received a bye in the first round of the OMHA playoffs.  As Collingwood and Midland battled it out north of us, the Saugeen Shores team kept fresh with three exhibition games.

After a week long break the BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team met up with Walkerton for a Home and Home series with the first game being played in Southampton on Monday, January 18th.  The Storm team was looking to shed some of the rust that can set in when sitting idle.  The boys took to the ice looking strong and dominant in their play but Walkerton scored the first goal of the game late in the first period.  The two teams continued to test one another through the second period but neither could find their way onto the scoreboard due to solid goaltending.  Walkerton started the third period in good fashion, scoring their second goal of the game shortly after the opening faceoff.  The Storm battled back later in the third as Murray Martin rushed the Walkerton net to shove one past the goalie off a juicy rebound that came as a result of Nick Sutter-Lammie’s shot after a mid-ice rush.  Also assisting on the goal was defenseman, Jack Middleton.  The game would end 2-1(curfewed) in Walkerton’s favour despite the hard work of the defense and  playmaking of the Saugeen Shores team.

The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team travelled to Walkerton on Friday night, January 22nd to play the second half of the home and home series.  Once again the Storm team would play a dominant game with good scoring opportunities but this time their efforts would pay off.  The Walkerton Capitals would draw first blood with a goal at about the midway point of the first period on a centering pass from behind the net that was deflected in by a Saugeen player.  The Storm responded by having Justin Marlowe jam the rebound from Nick Sutter-Lammie’s shot past the Capitals netminder a minute and a half later to even up the scoreboard.  The second period saw the same scenario play out as Walkerton added to their tally first followed by the Storm adding their own minutes later.  This time Michael Fiegehen, assisted by Murray Martin, would do the honors for the Storm.  In the third, the Storm out played Walkerton but could not find the net.  However, with less than a minute to go in the game Marlowe, assisted by Paul Leger and Michael Fiegehen, found the back of the net once again.  The Storm defense held the line and kept the Walkerton shooters at bay to help their team emerge victorious. Any shots that made it through  were dealt with neatly by the goaltender .  Final score 3-2 for the BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team.

The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team took on the Mitchell Meteors in Southampton on Saturday night, January 23rd.  The teams played a solid, well matched game for the first period and a half.  The Storm team worked hard to match the quick play of the Meteors and the fans were treated to a fast paced exciting game.  The tide turned against the Storm later in the second period as Mitchell scored two quick goals putting them ahead 2-0.  The Meteors momentum would carry over into the third period as they scored early on going up 3-0.  The Saugeen Shores team rallied to net one for themselves a few minutes later.  Nick Sutter-Lammie, assisted by Justin Marlowe and Murray Martin would team up to rack up the only goal for the Storm.  The Meteors continued to challenge the BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team forcing them to play a largely defensive game.  The night would end with a Meteors  4-1 victory.

The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team will start their first playoff round this weekend with a match-up against Collingwood on Saturday, Jan.30th at the Plex.
