The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB Team took home one loss and one win over the past weekend as they travelled to Monkton and Kincardine for their final two regular season games.  The team played with a shortened bench for both games due to injury and families away on holiday.

The Storm team first took on the number one ranked Mitchell Meteors in Monkton on Saturday, Jan. 2nd.  The game started out heavily in the Meteors favour as they maintained control of the puck for a good portion of the first twenty – five minutes.  The Storm team struggled to create scoring opportunities but mounted an impressive display on defence.  The defensive pairings of Kelly Cobean with William Forsyth and Kent Ribey with Jack Middleton led the team by keeping their opponents out to bad ice and clearing out the slot.  The forward lines made their contribution through decent backchecking and doing their part to help clear the zone.  Goaltender, Jack Flarity, kept his glove hand ready and was rock solid in net. Together, the team held the Meteors to a two goal lead going into the third period.  Early in the third, Kelly Cobean fed a nice pass to Michael Fiegehen who deftly made his way through four determined Meteor players and then launched a beauty past the Mitchell netminder.  The Saugeen Shores team would continue to put pressure on the Mitchell team but the night would end 2-1 in the Meteors favour.  Hats off to the two forward lines consisting of Justin Marlowe with Michael Fiegehen and Will Rickerby and Thomas MacDonald with Paul Leger and Murray Martin as they all skated hard and put forth an admirable effort.  A well deserved pat on the back to defencemen Cobean with Forsyth and Ribey with Middleton as they launched a commendable defence and held those Meteors at bay.  Handshakes all around for goalie, Jack Flarity, as he turned away many shots and did an excellent job to keep his team in the game.  Absent from the game were Eric Charlebois, Nick Sutter-Lammie and Korey Thomas.

On Sunday, Jan. 3rd, the BDO Dunwoody Atom BB Team travelled to Kincardine to take on the Kincardine Kinucks.  The Storm team readily earned favourable outcomes in their past two meetings with the Kinucks and this meeting would prove no different.  Affiliated player, Malcolm MacIntosh, was called up to help with the shortened forward lines.  The play started out much the same as the previous games with the Storm putting forth a notable offensive attack, keeping the Kinucks back on their heels for the first two periods.  Michael Fiegehen, assisted by Justin Marlowe, started the scoring for the BDO Dunwoody Atom BB Team halfway through the first period.  Then Nick Sutter- Lammie, assisted by Thomas MacDonald, kept the points rolling with a goal early in the second.  Paul Leger would continue the Storm’s streak by adding an unassisted goal shortly after that.  The Saugeen Shores team would enter the third period up 3-0 over the Kincardine team.  The Storm team continued to put pressure on the Kinuck goalie and Justin Marlowe found the back of the net, unassisted, just before the halfway mark of the third.  Marlowe, this time assisted by Sutter-Lammie, would score another mere seconds later as his line relentlessly drove at the net putting his team up 5-0.  The Kincardine team put up a good fight and the Storm team, feeling comfortable with their lead, let up a little during the third allowing the Kinucks to triple their shots on goal.  Goalie, Jacob Ackert, boldly stared down the shooters and kept his team in the game with quality saves.  As a result the BDO Dunwoody Atom BB Team ended their regular season with a convincing 5-2 win.  Props to centres, Thomas MacDonald and Justin Marlowe who did double duty skating hard and playing strong as they rotated through the three lines.  Two thumbs up to the wingers on each line, Michael Fiegehen with Will Rickerby, Murray Martin with Nick Sutter-Lammie and Paul Leger with Malcolm McIntosh (AP) as they all made some nice passes and did their part to create excellent scoring opportunities with their constant drives to the net.  A tip of the hat to the defensive pairings of Kelly Cobean with William Forsyth and Kent Ribey with Jack Middleton as they continued their tight play on defence proving once again that they are a force to contend with.  High five to goaltender, Jacob Ackert, as he put forth a super solid performance in net.

The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB Team travels to Elora on the weekend of Jan. 8th -10th for the 31st Annual Elora Atom Hockey Tournament.

Go Storm Go!
