The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team had two more games over the past holiday week.  Their first game was the second half of a Home and Home series with the Kincardine Kinucks played on Monday, Dec. 21st.  Their first meeting with the Kinucks saw the Saugeen Shores team take home the win (7-1) rather handily at the Davidson Arena in Kincardine, outshooting them 43 to 13.

The second game would result in another win for Saugeen Shores but the scoring gap would not be quite as formidable.  This time the Kinucks were determined to put the Storm to the test and that they did.  However, the Storm players rose to the challenge and once the puck dropped, the game was on!  After a physical first period the scoreboard would still read doughnuts all around despite the dominant play of the Saugeen Shores team.   The second period was just as demanding with both teams driving to the net.  The Storm team was the first to capitalize on their drive when Paul Leger made a smart pass to Thomas MacDonald in the corner who then slid it over to a perfectly positioned Nick Sutter-Lammie who expertly fired the puck past the Kinuck goalie.   The Storm kept the pressure on as Will Rickerby, assisted by Michael Fiegehen, found the back of the net minutes later.  Kincardine wasn’t to be counted out yet though as they too found their way onto the scoreboard just seconds later.  The Kinucks would tie the game early in the third period and continue to challenge the Storm players with their physical play. It was Paul Leger who got things rolling for the Storm once again as he scored an unassisted goal at about the seven minute mark of the final period.  Rickerby, this time assisted by Justin Marlowe would fire another one home bringing the Storm’s total to four.  The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team would once again sport a significant shot differential with the SOG totalling 32 to 12 in their favour.  Congratulations to all the players as the Storm had a full roster that night and everyone worked hard in their respective positions. Thumbs up to Jack Flarity, who stayed strong in net.

The next night the BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team celebrated the holidays with a team party.  A great time was had by all as the kids let loose, played karaoke and then watched a video of one of their games on the big screen TV.  After the fun night the kids, coaches and parents had a few days off to enjoy the festive season some more.

Then it was back to business for the BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team on Sunday, Dec. 27th as they took on the Goderich Sailors in Goderich.  Things got off to a solid start for the Saugeen Shores team as they turned on the pressure during the first period and let the shots fly. However, the Storm was only able to convert one of those scoring chances into a goal when Will Rickerby, who was assisted by Eric Charlebois and Michael Fiegehen, buried one in the back of the Sailors net.  The first period would end all tied up at one apiece.  The Storm saw a bit of a lull during the second period, coming from behind to add one more to their total.  The Storm’s goal this period was a late one, supplied by Nick Sutter-Lammie off a nice feed from linemate Murray Martin.  We’re all tied at two going into the third.  The final period proved to be an entirely different game for both teams as the scoring took off shortly after the first faceoff.  Rickerby, Charlebois and Fiegehen would work beautifully together once again to start the scoring for the Saugeen Shores team. Two minutes later the Sailors came back to even it up once again. Then another two minutes later they scored one more to take the lead for the second  time that night.  Mere seconds later Fiegehen, assisted by Charlebois and Rickerby would even the score with yet another Storm goal.  The Storm continued their scoring streak when Martin, assisted by Thomas MacDonald, would add another to the board.  One minute later, Rickerby, assisted by Fiegehen would score a hat trick putting the Storm ahead 6-4.  The Sailors rallied and added another goal at 5:48 of the third.  The Storm responded with a goal of their own seconds later, at 5:12, to bring their total to seven.  Martin, assisted by Sutter-Lammie and defenseman Kelly Cobean, would do the honors for the Storm.  The Sailors utilized their sharpshooter,  #10 – N. Helesic, to rally the Goderich team as he scored three unanswered goals late in the third to bring home the win for his team.  Final score 8-7 for the Sailors.  Thanks to affiliated player, Malcolm McIntosh, who did a solid job helping out on wing.  A shake of the hand to the Storm defence, who had to dig deep as they played a man short for the entire game.  Props to the forwards as well as they worked it hard to keep the pressure on the Goderich netminder.  And a pat on the back to Jacob Ackert who hung tough in net the whole night.  Absent from the game were Paul Leger (F), William Forsyth (D) and Jack Flarity (G).

Next up, the BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team takes on the Mitchell Meteors in Mitchell on Saturday, Jan. 2nd.

Go Storm Go!
