The BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team had a busy weekend last week with three games in three days.  The Storm team started their weekend by facing off against the Kincardine Kinucks in Tiverton.  The Storm’s Murray Martin was first to light up the scoreboard with assists by Nick Sutter-Lammie and Thomas MacDonald.  The Kinucks quickly came back to score one of their own and then add one more before the first buzzer sounded.  The Storm team took advantage of a couple of power plays early in the second period, with Martin using his eagle eye to line up a beautiful shot that cleanly beat the Kincardine goalie resulting in his second goal of the game with Sutter-Lammie earning his second assist.  Less than one minute later, Korey Thomas of the Storm assisted by Eric Charlebois and Paul Leger found the back of the net.  William Forsyth continued the Storm’s scoring streak burying a sweet shot from the dot. Forsyth was assisted by Will Rickerby and Justin Marlowe. The Kinucks came back to add one more to their tally before heading into the third.  The tide turned during the third period as the Kinucks came out to score two early goals, one coming just as the Storm finished killing off a penalty, putting them ahead 5-4.  Michael Fiegehen of the Storm, assisted by Jack Middleton and Paul Leger, evened things up as the team reached the halfway point of the third. The Kinucks fought back to score two more, with the second goal coming on a power play, to once again put them in the lead. The Storm team rallied on a penalty kill and Fiegehen, fresh off a solid pass from Charlebois, flipped a pretty backhand shot past the Kincardine netminder.  Unfortunately the clock ran out on the Storm and the night ended in a disappointing 7-6 loss.

Next up for the Storm was a game against Walkerton at the Plex the following day.  Both teams came out skating hard.  The action skated from end to end as both teams put forth a good effort on the Saturday afternoon.  Walkerton scored their first goal of the game late in the first period.  The Storm’s Fiegehen, assisted by Charlebois paired up again to even the tally early in the second.  Once again the tide turned against the Storm team in the third period as the Walkerton team capitalized on two separate power plays to bring their total to three goals.  The Storm team continued to put pressure on the visiting team but was not able to convert any of their scoring opportunities into goals. The Walkerton team would take this one 3-1.

The BDO Dunwoody Atoms made the drive down to Goderich on Sunday evening to face the Goderich Sailors.  The Storm team was down two players as Martin and goalie, Jacob Ackert, were both absent due to illness.  Jack Flarity stepped in between the pipes for the second time in two days.  Paul Leger filled in on an offensive line, while the three remaining defencemen (Kelly Cobean, Jack Middleton and Kent Ribey) held down the fort in the back end.  The Storm came out determined to skate a better game and end their losing streak.  And play a better game they did.  The BDO Dunwoody Atoms put the pressure on as soon as they stepped on the ice and didn’t let up until that final buzzer.  The fans were treated to a fast paced game with end to end action and numerous scrambles around both nets.  Thomas MacDonald of the Storm was the first to strike as he slid a nicely executed shot through the five hole of the Goderich goalie in the first period.  Paul Leger received a well earned assist on the play as he had sent a smart and sweet pass to MacDonald from the far side.  The Sailors responded with a goal of their own just two minutes later and the first period would end with the score all tied at one.  The Storm team came out just as strong for the second period. Will Rickerby fed a pretty pass to Fiegehen who wasted no time sending it to the back of the Goderich net.  Jack Middleton also earned an assist on the play.  The Saugeen Shores team would find themselves on an extended penalty kill shortly after the goal but the team pulled together and kept the Sailors at bay despite being down two men for a minute and a half.  The Goderich team continued to work hard and evened up the score just as the second period was winding down.  The third period was fifteen minutes more of exciting play but neither team was able to add any more points to the board.  The night would end in a draw.

Next up for the BDO Dunwoody Atom BB team is a tournament in Shelburne on Saturday, December 12th.

Go Storm Go!
