The Port Elgin Legion Peewee BB Hockey Team Earn Convincing Win on the Road Against Mitchell
The Storm traveled to Mitchell on November 9th and came home the victors with a convincing 8-1 victory.

Both teams came out of the gate a little tentative and played for over 10 minutes in the first period before Eric Langridge scored an unassisted marker to give the Storm the lead. Ben Van Ooteghem followed with 2:42 left to play in the period as he fired another unassisted and this time a shorthanded marker past Mitchell goaltender Tanner Bennewies. At the end of the 1st, the Storm led 2-0.
The Storm came out flying off the drop of the puck to start the 2nd frame as Van Ooteghem took a pass from Charlie Wilkinson and fired home his 2nd of the match with only :31 seconds ticked off the clock. A little less than three minutes later Eric Langridge zigged and zagged his way from his own blue line through a myriad of players and fired a wrist shot over the blocker shoulder of the goalie after taking a pass from defense partner Austin Henry to give the Storm a 4 goal lead. The two teams traded numerous scoring chances for the balance of the game only to be stymied time and again. With only 1:09 left in the period and shorthanded once again, Ben Walker took a pass from Jordan Vanhaelmeesch and roofed a wrist shot into the top right hand corner. At the end of the two complete period, the Storm had increased their lead to 5 while holding the hometown squad off the scoresheet.
The 3rd period featured excellent play by both teams as each team continued to press on offence while the defenders turned away all comers and the goaltenders kept the nets clean. After drawing 3 defenders deep into their own zone and ragging the puck back and forth behind the net on the penalty kill, Ben Van Ooteghem snuck a wrap-around into the net for his his 3rd of the contest and a 6-0 lead. With 2:21 left to play in the game, Steven Langendoen banged home another unassisted, short handed goal for the seventh Storm marker. To their credit Mitchell never gave up and finally were awarded at the 1:55 mark as Brody Pully put one past Luke Schmalz to break his shutout bid. Not to be outdone, the Storm replied with :14 seconds left on a goal by Charlie Wilkinson, assisted by Steven Langendoen. Final score, Storm 8 – Mitchell 1.
Congratulations to players on both teams for a good effort and entertaining display of talent. Next action for the Storm will see them compete in the Strathroy Tournament (Nov. 13-15) and then will host Walkerton at the Plex on Saturday, Nov. 21st at 4:45 pm.
