The OMHA has mandated that parents of players registered with the OMHA are required to take the Respect In Sport (RIS) Parent Program. Before your child(ren) can be registered and take part in any activities, you must complete this course.  

PARENTS WHO COMPLETED THIS COURSE LAST YEAR DO NOT HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN - THIS REQUIREMENT IS FOR PARENTS OF NEW PLAYERS. IF YOU HAVE A NEW PLAYER BUT HAVE TAKEN THE COURSE, LOG INTO THE SITE AND ADD YOUR NEW PLAYER'S NAME TO YOUR ACCOUNT.

Below, you will find some answers to some frequently asked questions.

IMPORTANT:

When completing the course it is important to ensure all your children participating in minor hockey are properly entered in the 'Child Management' screen. Children's names should be entered using the same spelling as when they were registered with Saugeen Shores Minor Hockey. If you cannot find your child in the data base please contact us for assistance.

Upon completion of the program please ensure to save a copy of your certificate and the confirmation email for future reference. 

Cost:

The cost of the online Respect in Sport Parent Education Program is $12 plus HST which can be paid via credit card or PayPal when registering online.  You will not be reimbursed for this cost, it is an OMHA program not a SSMHA program.

Content:

The Respect in Sport Program for Parents is a unique, in-depth 1 hour online program geared to providing the parent with information on how to evaluate and understand:

  • Parental influence over a child
  • Coach and leader roles in sport
  • Role of the parent and coach in ensuring a child's enjoyment of a sport
  • Protecting your child when outside of your immediate control
  • Concussion awareness and Return to Play guidelines
  • Long-Term Player Development

Who Must Complete the Course?:

Parents of players in all divisions of the SSMHA including Pre-School and Initiation Programs as well as the older levels.

SSMHA Responsibility:

Saugeen Shores Minor Hockey is responsible for implementing these requirements as established by the OMHA and requires your support and cooperation with ensuring the completion of this certification.  Thank you for your commitment to the safety, enjoyment and success of your child, and all OMHA participants.
