Goalie Development - Richard Harris
Hey goalie parents! I’d like to welcome you to 2016/17 goalie development season. Let me introduce myself. My name is Richard Harris. I’ve been involved with SSMHA since 2010 when my son Lucas joined the Tyke program. I’ve been a helper, trainer, assistant coach and head coach during the past 6 years. I’ve helped with the goalie development on and off over the last 5-6 years as well.

Goaltending is my passion. It’s the coolest position in all sports, not just hockey. It’s also the most misunderstood and under-coached position as well. That’s why I’m very happy to help keep the goalie development program alive. I grew up playing Rep hockey in Owen Sound. I continued to Wiarton Jr C, 1 game of Jr B with the Owen Sound Greys (we won), Sr A hockey with the Wiarton Redmen, Saugeen Shores Winterhawks, Shallow Lake Crushers, then back to the Winterhawks. I continue to play “old timers” in Port Elgin as well. My wife teases me constantly about the hours I spend on the computer reading or watching videos about goaltending. The position has changed a lot since my dad first taught me how to play 30 years ago. It is constantly evolving and I’m trying to evolve with it. I’m an old dog but I keep trying to learn the new tricks. Hopefully I can pass them on to your goalies. I’m really looking forward to getting all of your goalies on the ice. I’ve seen many of them play and worked with many of them in the past seasons. There are some great kids to work with. Monday October 3rd will be the opening night of goalie development, 7-8pm at the Southampton Coliseum. It will continue same time and place until roughly Christmas. It would be great if ALL SSMHA GOALIES could come on Oct 3rd. We’ll have a fun night and get them headed in the right direction to start the season. Depending on numbers moving forward we may alternate nights between younger and older groups. We’ll see what the turnout is like and make that decision. If you have any questions about the program, about me, about gear or about goaltending or hockey in general please reach out to me anytime by email [email protected]  I’m always up for talking hockey and goaltending. See you in the crease!
