SSMHA loses a beloved supporter
In April of this year, Saugeen Shores Minor Hockey lost a beloved supporter of our association.  Ida May Trelford, or Maisie, as she was more commonly known, passed away at the age of 89.

Maisie lived her entire life in Southampton, and worked for both Bell Canada and Canada Post.  She was also a member of the Southampton Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Rebekhah’s, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Southampton Presbyterian Church.

Few people knew that she was a faithful supporter of minor hockey in Saugeen Shores.  Every year, Maisie sponsored a Novice Local League team through a donation that helps to pay for jerseys, equipment and other expenses.  She always enjoyed hearing about her team but preferred to stay in the background, and did not attend the games.  She proudly displayed all the team pictures on a wall in her home and even had a SSMHA jersey hanging alongside of them.  Jeff Walker, Director of Sponsorships, along with his daughter Nikki, would go and visit with her and share the news articles from the website, detailing the progress of her team.

Her legacy of dedication to minor hockey in Saugeen Shores will continue on long after her passing as Maisie has generously given a portion of her estate to the association.  For the next 10 years, our jerseys will continue to have the name ‘Maisie Trelford’ across the back.

Next time you see her name on a jersey, or watch your player wear her name on the ice, please think of Maisie and the contribution she made to minor hockey.

Our deepest sympathies go to Maisie’s family and friends; she will be missed by all who knew her.
