Silver Stick a Huge Success
Over 750 hockey players on 43 teams, along with coaches and parents filled every local area arena this past weekend for the 14th annual Silver Stick Caitlyn Cobean Memorial Tournament.

The annual girls' hockey tournament began Friday night and ran through until Sunday night with teams from throughout Ontario and from as far away as Wyoming, USA.

The tournament featured 43 teams across 7 divisions, Novice through Intermediate.

Four of our Saugeen Shores Storm teams participated in the tournament, with our Bantam C and Midget C Storm teams making it through to their respective semi finals.  Unfortunately there will be no new Silver Stick banners hanging in the Plex this year as both teams were eliminated in their semi showdowns.

Our Intermediate B team had a tough road in the tourney, facing off first against the visiting State Champions from Casper, Wyoming and then the reigning OWHA Provincial champs, the Barrie-Simcoe Sharks. While they weren't successful on the scoreboard, the newly formed Storm team had a great weekend, even enjoying an impromptu pizza outing with the Wyoming team.

Our Atom C Storm girls went 0-3 over the weekend, but improved with each game, losing by a mere 2-1 margin against eventual semi-finalists Woolwich.  The on-ice results didn't deter from the fun though, as the energetic Atom coaching staff put together some great off-ice team building activities for the girls, including a scavenger hunt and fun filled snow man building trip.

When it was all over, the tournament boasted 7 champions from 7 different minor hockey associations, which speaks volumes to the breadth and depth of girls' hockey. We're hoping this will mean an even bigger turnout at next year's tournament.
