Atom & Bantam Girls Wrap Up
Submitted By Sean Fowler on Mon 03 31, 14

The SSMHA earned a couple of more feathers for their cap this weekend as our Atom C girls and Bantam C girls both earned the right to call themselves champions!

Saugeen Shores played host to the WOAA Atom Girls Year End Tournament which took place on Mar 29-30. The weekend tournament consisted of 16 games played in Port Elgin and Southampton, with the White and Maroon division finals being held in front of a packed house at the Plex on Sunday afternoon. In a fitting conclusion to a stellar WOAA season, our own Storm Atom C girls (sponsored by Crabby Joes) went undefeated throughout the tournament and were crowned WOAA Champions with a 2-0 win over Grey Highlands.

WOAA feedback about the tournament was very positive. A huge thank you goes out to all of the players, team staff and parents for pitching in, supporting the SSMHA and making the tournament a success.

In the other WOAA Year End Tournament that was held this weekend, the Storm Bantam C girls (sponsored by Heather's Poodle Care & Ralph's Hiway Shoppette) headed down to Ayton and came away WOAA White Division Champions. The victories did not come easy though, as the Storm had two consecutive games go into extra time. The championship final against Bruce Peninsula was decided in the second overtime, with Storm defender Kelly Robertson scoring the OT winner in the 3-2 decision. Congratulations to the players and staff on the successful finale to the season!!

Next on the docket for the Storm girls, our Atom C, Pee Wee C and Midget C teams will be travelling to Toronto on April 11-12 to participate in the OWHA Provincial finals.
