U9 Tier 2 - Aylmer Flames U9 Rep Tournament Champions
Submitted By John Kain on Tue 02 07, 23
The Saugeen Shores Storm U9 Tier 2 Boys were crowned champions at the Aylmer Flames U9 Rep Tournament this past weekend.

The boys went undefeated in the round robin with wins over the Orangeville Flyers, the Southwest Bullets and the Belmont Rangers. The Storm’s offense was humming in these first three games, scoring 17 goals. Equally impressive was the team’s defensive performance, anchored by netminder, Knox Luscombe, who turned away all but two shots in the round robin.

The boys faced a strong Belmont Rangers team for the second time in the semi-finals.  Coming out of the dressing room flying, the Storm quickly jumped out in front with an early goal. The lead was short-lived, with Belmont scoring an equalizer only minutes later. In the end, the Storm were able to wear down their opponent and record three more unanswered goals, leaving the Rangers in the rearview with a 4-1 victory.

In their biggest game of the tournament, the boys faced-off against the #2-ranked Orangeville Flyers in the finals. The Flyers were out for revenge after dropping the first match earlier in the tournament, and charged out to a 1-0 lead over the Storm in the first period. True to form, and rallied by their cheering fans, the boys quickly answered, tying the game 1-1. With victory in the balance, the boys steadily pulled ahead with four more goals to become tournament champions. The final scoreboard of the championship game read: Storm 5, Flyers 1.

Their impressive undefeated streak against some tough opponents was the result of hard work and contributions from every single member of the team. Way to go boys!! You've made your families, friends and your coaches very proud.
