U9 (OWHA) HL #3 - Ayr Rockets Winter Blast Tournament Champions
Submitted By JA Smith on Mon 02 06, 23
The Saugeen Shores U9 Girls HL3 team competed in the Ayr Rockets Winter Blast tournament this past weekend. The girls played 5 games in the round robin, winning 3, tying 1 and losing 1 game.

The girls fought hard and played impressive hockey especially since they’ve only been playing full ice for 2 weeks and we only had 9 skaters plus a goalie. During the round robin we saw Tenley McNeil and Kate Martin both score their first goals of the season, Norah Jerome and Alayah McNeil adding one each to their tally and Kalaya Kranenburg adding 11 goals to her count.

The girls entered the final game excited to play in their first Championship of their hockey careers and they came out flying. The girls skated hard and pressured the Brantford team, but the score remained 0-0 after 2 periods. These girls are fierce and they wanted this win so they continued to work hard in the 3rd and with 3 minutes left in the game Kalaya Kranenburg punched one in to put Saugeen Shores up 1-0. With 1 ½ minutes left of play Frankie Marsh got her first career penalty to give Brantford a power play. Saugeen Shores put out their best effort and kept Brantford on their heels to lock in the Championship WIN!!!! This incredible team brought home a gold medal for SSMHA and the coaches were proud of the way the played all tournament. Go Storm! 🥅🏒
