U11 Rep Storm Outdo Falcons In 8-1 Victory
The Saugeen Shores U11 Rep Storm, sponsored by UNIFOR, posted a convincing win in their recent game against the Hanover Falcons.  The Storm started strong, controlling the play from the first puck drop, and opened the scoring three and a half minutes into the period when Cooper Henderson cleaned up a loose puck in front of the Falcons' net sent in by Mack Smith and Gordie Brady.

The second Storm goal came three minutes later when Brock Harrison sent it to the Falcon net and Will Conley found the resulting loose puck and put it into the back of the net.  The third period wound down with a drive up the left wing by Chase Cosgrove, dragging the Falcon defenders with him, then crossing the puck to a wide-open Kai Bailey, ending the period 3-0 Storm. The Storm continued their fine performance into the second period, controlling the play for many good chances in the Hanover end. Three and half minutes into the period, Chase Cosgrove’s sharp eye found Richie Buckland coming off the bench behind the Falcons defenders and connected with Rickie sending him on a breakaway. Ritchie faked the goalie to the left, pulled the puck back to the right, and tucked it neatly into the net.

Later in the period, the Falcons found themselves in trouble in their own end when a misplayed puck ended up on the stick of Josh Dykstra who side-stepped the remaining defender and took a shot from the hash marks that went over the goalie’s glove and into the back of the net. The bench erupted in cheers, particularly from the defenseman and goalies on the coaching staff, for this was the first Stom goal of the season by a defensive player. The Storm were not done yet, and with time running out in the second, Mack Smith drove the puck up the ice and his beautiful pass from the corner found Cooper Henderson in front of the net who finished the play for his second goal of the night, ending the period 6-0 Storm.

The Storm continued to play well into the third period, trying some creative plays, and the Falcons held them scoreless for most of the period. With 4:38 left on the clock, the Falcons capitalized on a misplay in the Storm end and found their way onto the scoreboard with an unassisted goal. The Storm responded with two quick goals of their own, the first one by Gordie Brady assisted by Mack Smith and Cooper Henderson. The second goal was a solo effort by Kai Bailey, who drew left and shot the puck from his back heel, deflecting it off of the goalie’s mask and into the top corner of the net ending the penalty-free game 8-1 Storm.

Player of the game was awarded to Richie Buckland for a strong, consistent effort, highlighted by his beautiful goal in the second period. The Storm will finish off their week with three practices in preparation for their first Silver Stick game in Wingham against South Huron.

Go Storm!
