Message from the President
Submitted By Stephen Ballard on Sun 10 17, 21
Hello SSMHA Families,

I just wanted to thank everyone for helping to make this transition back to playing “regular” hockey as smooth as possible. We have had some incredible volunteers step up to help with the start of our season. Our organization simply doesn’t run without volunteers, so thank you. We have had to adjust to new rules, deadlines and changes more times than I can count, and I expect there to be many more along the way.

For those of you who are frustrated and upset, I understand completely. This has not been easy on any of us. Today is the deadline for having received your second dose of the Covid19 vaccination to comply with the vaccination policy put out by our governing bodies (provincial government, OMHA and OWHA). Please reach out to me directly if you are not in compliance with this timeline and we can discuss your options.

Any child under the age of 12 will require a designated, vaccinated adult to accompany them into the arena if the parent/caregiver is unable to join them due to vaccination status. I understand that this causes hardship for some families, and I am happy to discuss this with you. It breaks my heart to see any child miss out on the benefits of hockey. I have zero control over the mandates that have been laid out and the same goes for the security at the arena checking vaccinations.

SSMHA team managers will check your players vaccination status and record that they have verified it. We will NOT be keeping a hard copy of your player’s vaccination information. It will be seen and checked off on a master list. All bench staff and other volunteers will be verified by the VP’s or myself. We appreciate your help in getting this done as quickly and smoothly as possible.

Security will continue to check spectators at the front door for the foreseeable future. Anyone who has not shown their status by November the 1st will be denied entry until they can provide the required documentation.

As always, please reach out to me if you need any help with this or any other issue.

Yours in hockey,

Mary Campbell
