Novice B Tyler Loper Memorial Tournament
Last weekend, your Rowland's Your Independent Grocer Novice B Team travelled to Drayton for the Tyler Loper Memorial Tournament. The first game saw us face off against Burford Coyotes in a hard fought battle that resulted in a 2-2 tie after regulation play. Showing his offensive side, defenseman Malakai Kranenburg sunk the two regulation time goals to put Storm on the board. An exciting 4 mins of 3 on 3 overtime ended with a gritty goal from Mack Smith.

The first round win put the our team up against the ever present Mitchell Meteors. After 30 mins of regulation, we found ourselves in another draw. After a gutsy turnover goal from Kai “Kaizer” Bailey and a laser from Edgerin Kahgee, Kain “Kainer” Myers held strong between pipes to force another 3 on 3 OT. In a game filled with fire and determination from our offensive pairings of Cooper Henderson, Ollie Alpaugh, and Radek Ebenstreit, Mitchell managed to squeeze one across the goal line with 58 seconds to go in OT.This loss positioned us in the “B” Championships against the hometown Drayton Defenders. Despite being tremendous hosts, we were determined to bring home the trophy. After a scoreless first period, Drayton got on the board early in the second. Ritchie Buckland got things back under control with back-to-back goals, including a breakaway wrist shot to the top corner. The boys were seeing trophies in their eyes late in the third, and with an extra player aboard, Drayton brought the game within one. Our defensive pairs of Greyson Wolfe, Micah Alexander, Bradley Seaman and Kranenburg, along with our spectacular goaltending, kept us in front for the victory. As if this victory wasn’t sweet enough, our very own Ollie Alpaugh won the 14th annual “chuck-a-puck” competition, bringing home a 55” TV to add to the hardware collection. A great day was had by all; players, parents, grandparents and friends who came out to cheer these boys on. The team missed their teammate and his offensive flair, Fletcher Mason, who was under the weather this weekend. We can’t wait to have him back for the final games of our awesome season! Thanks to our sponsors for their dedication to growing young athletes in this community.
