Chris Knott Memorial Tournament Queens Bar & Grill Atom AE
(Submitted by Scott Campbell)

Wow what a weekend & what a well-run tournament. I would like to start by thanking Alison Charbonneau and all of her helpers for such a great tournament. Parents -  thanks for stepping up with all your volunteering to make this tournament happen.

Now back to the kids that worked their butts off digging in the corners, passing like crazy, and back checking to protect Knox McBride our unshakable goaltender. Our weekend started out Friday afternoon against our rivals from the south, Kincardine, where we overcame their attacks and fought back with mind-numbing passes to win 2-1, which set the tone for the games to follow. Game 2 was Saturday at noon against Ingersoll.  Despite Ingersoll’s best effort, they were no match for the Storm boys' constant attacks, goaltending and brick wall defencemen. With a team effort, we won this game with a 6-0 victory. Game 3, Saturday at 6pm against Twin Center, proved to be our toughest battle of the weekend as they relentlessly attacked goaltender Knox McBride, resulting in a 2-2 tie. This seeded us in 1st place for the round robin. At 7am Sunday morning, pumped & ready to start warm ups, our Atom boys walked into the Plex knowing what they needed to do over the next 2 games to be able to hoist that trophy over their heads. That is exactly what they did at 8am, when they raced out on the ice with fire in their bellies. We made quick work showing Ingersoll we meant business! Goaltender Knox pulled out his 2nd shutout of the weekend, as we won with another 6-0 score, sending us to the Championship game. With the great words of wisdom from coaches Brent Jacklin, Chad Eagleson and AJ McBride, the Queens Atom AE team knew what they needed to do as they headed out for a 12:30 game time against Twin Center. The Plex had a ton of energy with all of their Storm families coming out to watch our best game of the weekend. The boys wasted no time showering the TC goalie with laser beam shots and perfect passes, which showed up on the scoreboard with us having a 3-0 lead in the first 5 minutes. Despite numerous retaliations from the TC boys, we held strong with superior defence, back checking and goaltending, resulting in a 6-1 win and a Championship Win in our 1st tournament.

Congratulations to the team and coaches for the excellent effort the Atom AE Storm put in, finishing with a stellar 4-0-1 record, 2 shutouts, 20 goals for, and 4 goals against.
