Light the Way Fundraising Hockey Game a Success!
A big thank you goes out to the KnK Lawn Care PeeWee LL2 Boys and Ontario Power Generation PeeWee HL Girls team for their fundraising efforts in support of the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Light the Way campaign.  Tagging on to 98 The Beach’s radiothon, the teams hosted a charity road hockey game at the Waterloo Street Neighbourhood Park in Port Elgin on the afternoon of December 13th.

Pledges were collected by the teams prior to the game, and through the radio and social media, people were encouraged to donate to the radiothon on behalf of PeeWee hockey.

The response was amazing. To date, the teams raised an incredible $15,000 and still counting!  The team appreciates all of the help that was provided by the Town of Saugeen Shores for clearing the playing area, Deputy Mayor Don Matheson to drop the puck for the opening face off, and our Emergency Services for recording the event.  Coach Steve Bursey refereed, and a very, very special thanks to Coach / Trainer Amanda Froese for organizing everything!

Most importantly, the kids had fun, the weather was great, and the event will be submitted to the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup program that receives submissions for charitable activities involving PeeWee hockey teams from across Canada.  The winners receives $100,000 for their charity and some quality time with Ron MacLean – here’s hoping!
