First Regular Season Game a Victory for Novice B Storm
Article by Amy Doherty

Regular season play commenced this past Sunday, October 19th,  in Listowel.  Coming hot off of two exhibition wins, the Storm kept their winning momentum alive against the Cyclones.

The team began the game with a fast and furious goal scored by veteran, Dustin Heipel, followed by a tight-angle goal by Liam Doherty, and a breakaway goal for Emmett Jackson to end the first period.

In the early minutes of the second period, two quick goals were set up by Liam Doherty and completed by Dustin Heipel and Will Nason, to make the score 5-0.  The Storm continued to maintain pressure in the Cyclones’ end zone, with Luke Thornley and Chad Lawrence setting up Nason for his second goal of the period.  The Cyclones were able to get on the scoreboard late in the period, making the score 6-1 for the Storm.

The third period saw more scoring opportunities for both teams.  Luke Thornley was able to capitalize on a set up by Malachi McKinnon and Chad Lawrence, while the Cyclones followed with two goals of their own.  Defenseman, Austin Dunlop, took a pass from fellow defender Lucas Harris and scored a beauty goal for the Storm.  Defender, Jason Legge, took the puck for a full ice skate, ripping off a heater of a shot, and scoring in the last few minutes of the game.  Strong play by the Storm’s defense team: Austin Dunlop, Lucas Harris, Sean Moorehead, and Jason Legge, ensured that the Storm’s lead was maintained throughout the game, and standout passes and smart play by all players ensured that the final score was 9-3 for the Storm.
