The team kicked-off
the “Show-Down in the Shores” on Saturday, October 18th, with a 4-1
win over the Kincardine Kinucks.
Constant pressure from the Storm kept play in the first period predominantly
in the Kinucks’ zone. The Storm took
advantage of a great pass from Will Nason to Chad Lawrence for their first
goal. Later in the period, Dustin Heipel
was able to steal away the puck from a Kinuck player and score a beauty goal to
make the score 2-0 for the Storm.
Storm goalie, Keenan Bender, saw a little more action in the second period, forcing him to make a few good saves to keep his team ahead. Defensemen, Jason Legge and Sean Moorehead, each set up some great scoring opportunities for the storm, with Will Nason scoring in the second for the Storm’s third goal.
Play during the third saw several Storm players take penalties. Strong defensive play by defender Sean Moorehead ensured that Kincardine wasn’t able to take advantage of a great scoring opportunity. During a 5-on-3 power play, the Kinucks were able to monopolize the puck and score their first goal of the game. With less than two minutes of play, Liam Doherty scored the final goal of the game, making the score 4-1 Storm. In special recognition of the day’s play, Keenan Bender was awarded the “Second Star” of the game, and Will Nason was named “First Star.” Way to go Storm!
