Port Elgin Home Hardware/Dunlop Fuels Continue Successful League Play
The Saugeen Shores Novice Rep team played three league games over the last week and came away with two wins and a loss.

Last Monday night, the boys played a home game in Southampton against TCDMHA. The Storm controlled the game from the opening faceoff and came away with a convincing 8-3 win. Leading the team with 4 goals was Dane Heipel. Donovan Kewageshig added a pair with Eoin MacKay and Hale Schoneck adding singles. Helping out with assists were Austin Hagen, Eoin MacKay, Jacob Condy, Carter O’Leary and Hale Schoneck.

Jarrett Blue was strong in net against the opposition with Ethan Greig and Reed Stauffer playing solid defense. Sam Flarity and Kaya Hall had some scoring opportunities to help the boys storm the net.

On Saturday afternoon, the Storm headed up the highway for a game against Shallow Lake. The home team skated hard throughout the game, with the Storm having to play catch up early on. Our boys fought back from a 3-0 deficit going into the third but were unable complete the comeback losing in a close 3-2 finish.

Scoring for the Storm were Reed Stauffer from Nick Scott and Eoin MacKay and Jacob Condy on an unassisted play. Nic Lalonde, back from illness, was solid along the boards at the winger position.

Saugeen Shores was back in action Sunday afternoon as they played the Bruce Peninsula Wild at the Plex. The two teams were evenly matched in the first period as both defenses held each other off. Hale Schoneck, Carter O’Leary, Ethan Greig and Reed Stauffer were solid along the blue line. The Storm began the scoring in the second with Austin Hagen scoring with an assist from Reed Stauffer. Five minutes later, Eoin MacKay made it 2-0 on an unassisted play followed by Jacob Condy, scoring the first of three for his 2nd career hat-trick, on an assist from Reed Stauffer.

Practice seemed to be paying off as the boys pulled off some effective passing plays to help the offense drive to the net.

The teams traded goals in the third period with Jacob Condy scoring his second dinger, this one of the garbage type, burying home a tantalizing rebound off a Nick Scott shot from the slot. His third goal capped a nice rush off a turnover in the neutral zone finishing with a beautiful reverse deke. Dane Heipel added the game-sealing goal to ensure the win with 1:45 to go after the Wild scored two quick ones to make it a close 5-3 game. Final score was 6-3.

Congratulations to the boys for collecting toys for the Salvation Army on Sunday. Thanks to everyone who donated at the gate.
