There is healthy rivalry developing within the Pee Wee Girls division of the WOAA and it’s resulted in some entertaining hockey games so far this year. The Storm Pee Wee Girls played another outstanding game in Southampton on Monday night, defeating the Tiverton Thunder 2 - 1. This was the second one-goal victory for the Storm over Tiverton this year, the first being a 4 - 3 nail biter on October 18.Monday’s
game remained tied 0 – 0 until the third period despite great scoring
opportunities for both sides. A series of superb early shifts had the Storm forward
lines unabashedly buzzing the Thunder net, with Teaghan Johnston finally
scoring unassisted two minutes in.
Tiverton
tied the game 1 - 1 midway through the period, but Olivia Osborne (assisted by
Alexis Martin) scored the winner for the Storm less than two minutes later with
five minutes remaining.
The
game was also highlighted by some solid defensive play by the pairing of Emma DeBoer
and Zainab Shiekh as well as the now familiar goaltending prowess of Erica
Parker, who stopped a three on one opportunity late in the game.
Players
and fans on both sides are excited about the rivalry that’s developing between
the two teams and it’s hoped that at least a couple of more games can be
arranged for later in the season. One Tiverton fan was quoted as saying
“We love playing you guys … the games are always exciting”.
