Congratulations to our Midget AE boys for going undefeated in the Collingwood Regional Silver Stick qualifier played this weekend.
The Storm demonstrated they had come to play right from the get-go by soundly defeating their first opponent, the
Oro Thunder on Friday. They lead
Oro 3-0 at the end of the first, and scored a pair of goals in each of the remaining periods to defeat
Oro by a score of 7-1. The Storm had a balanced attack with goals coming from;
Brannt Hall,
Gaige Jackson, Joey
Jacobs(2),
Hayden Burke,
Lucas Ross, and
Cass Walden. Assisting on the goals were;
Kevin Bowman,
Skylar Hess(2),
Lucas Ross,
Cale Pyette, Alex Pilar, and
Cody Charlebois. Unfortunately Darren Ritchie was hurt during the game and would not be able to play for the rest of the tournament.
In the next game they faced the Mitchell Meteors and skated away with a 5-2 win. Scoring for the storm were; Alex Pilar, Jordan Gibbons,
Tyson Carter,
Skylar Hess, and
Gaige Jackson. Assists went to;
Kevin Bowman, Dan
Clazie,
Brannt Hall, and
Tyson Carter.
Saturday the Storm played the host team, the Collingwood
Blackhawks. This was a hard fought game and good defensive play and key saves by Jordan Kelly resulted in a 3-3 tie. Scoring for the Storm were;
Darren Kimewon(2) and
Brannt Hall. Assists went to;
Cass Walden(2),
Gaige Jackson(2),
Cale Pyette, and
Cody Charlebois.
The last opponent the Storm had to get by to earn a spot in the finals was the
Huntsville Otters. The Storm opened the scoring with a goal by Jordan Gibbons. The Storm scored again in the second period on a goal by Dan
Clazie, assisted by
Gaige Jackson, and Jordan Gibbons.
Huntsville fought back in the third by scoring a goal of their own, but it wasn't enough as
netminder Jordan Kelly shut the door and the Storm skated to a 2-1 win.
The Storm then had to wait to find out who their opponent would be in the finals, either Collingwood or Mitchell. Mitchell beat Collingwood in overtime Saturday night to face the Storm Sunday afternoon in the final game. In the final game the Storm was never behind in this game leading 3-1 in the third. However, they got into penalty trouble in the last two minutes of the game. Mitchell pulled their goalie and played 6 on 4 and with 28 seconds left in the game managed to score. However, with the Mitchell goalie still pulled, the Storm held on to win 3-2. Goal scorers were;
Hayden Burke,
Darren Kimewon, and
Skylar Hess with the game winner. Assists went to;
Tyson Carter,
Gaige Jackson,
Cody Charlebois, and Alex Pilar.
Congratulations to all the players and the coaching staff for a job well done. The team is now looking forward to playing in the International Silver Stick Tournament in early January.
