The Saugeen Shore Storm U13 Tier 1 team capped off an impressive weekend by capturing another gold medal, this time at the Guelph PowerPlay Hockey Tournament. The team solidified their dominance on the ice with a commanding 7-1 victory over the Guelph Gryphons in the championship game on Sunday evening.
In their opening game, the Storm secured a 2-0 victory against the Centre Wellington Fusion. They followed that up with an 8-1 win against the Upper York Admirals, showcasing their offensive firepower. A 1-1 tie against the hometown Guelph Gryphons was their only blemish of the round-robin, but the team bounced back in style, defeating the Whitby Wildcats 5-1 in their final match of pool play.
This impressive performance earned them the top seed heading into the final day of competition. The Storm's momentum carried into the semifinal, where they faced off against the Windsor Junior Spitfires. After a hard-fought battle, the Storm emerged victorious, winning 6-2, with standout performances across the roster.
In the championship game, the Storm squared off once again against the Guelph Gryphons, who had proven to be a tough opponent in pool play. But, the Storm were undeterred. With solid defensive play and a relentless offense, they were able to secure a 7-1 win to claim the tournament title!
The Storm's offensive depth, solid defensive play, and strong goaltending were key factors in their success. Coaches are proud of the team effort all weekend.
With the Guelph Power Play Tournament now in the rearview mirror, the Saugeen Shore Storm will look to carry their momentum forward into the rest of the season. The tournament win serves as a clear statement that they are a team to watch in upcoming competitions.
Special thanks to the tournament organizers and referees for contributing to a successful weekend.
