The Storm U11 Rep C team has capped the year off winning an OMHA Provincial Championship! On
Sunday, April 9th, the Storm beat the West Lorne Comets 4-1 to win the under-11, tier 3 championship
title in Windsor, ON. Getting to the championship game, however, was no easy feat. After going 1-1-1 in
pool play, the Saugeen Shores Storm advanced to the semifinals based on a tie breaker rule. In the
semi-final game, the Storm faced the Douro Dukes in a tough match. Winning 6-5 they advanced to the
championship game against the West Lorne Comets. The Storm were up 3-0 after two periods, and
played tremendous defensive hockey, with stellar goaltending until the very end.
Prior to the OMHA championship tournament, the Storm maintained a strong regular season sporting a 15-4-1 record. They fought some tough battles, winning many games and learning from others. The Storm U11 Rep C Team live and play by the motto: “There is only winning and learning.” Although wins were always exciting and celebrated, ultimately it was the recognition that much learning could come from a loss that led to their success. Thanks to their strong determination, continuous reflection and improvement, and our excellent coaching staff, the team surpassed all of our expectations.
In addition to completing a remarkable regular season, the team also performed well in several tournaments, earning a gold medal at the Regional Silver Stick Competition in Ayr, ON in December, and a silver medal at the International Silver Stick Competition in Pelham, ON in January. Everywhere they played, they carried themselves with pride, competed with passion, and executed with purpose.
We are extremely proud of each of our players and how their hockey skills have improved this season. We wish the best of luck to our four majors who will move up to U13 next season. It was an honor and a pleasure to support your minor hockey journey this year. As one of our parents said: “The only thing better than winning trophies and medals are the memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.” We hope that you will remember this year with fondness and cherish the friendships you’ve fostered.
