Today the Saugeen Shores Atom AE team had its
first regular-season loss. They played
the Mitchell Meteors with home ice advantage at the Plex. The Storm got onto
the scoreboard early on into the first period.
This goal was scored by Ozzie Alpaugh, unassisted.
Part way into the second period Charlie Bennett scored, assisted by Emmett Jackson. The game was now 2-0 for the Storm. The Meteors battled back, and Mitchell scored twice in the second tying up the game. The storm wasn't finished yet, and Brandon Embro scored unassisted giving the Storm the go ahead with the score at 3-2.
The Meteors came on strong at the beginning of the third period to tie the game up 3-3. The Storm kept the pressure up and had many chances at the net, but the Meteors goalie managed to hold the line for their team. One whistle was questionable while we were dominating the play as the refs lost site of the puck, but from where we sat in the stands it appeared that we had scored. With only 21 seconds left on the clock the Meteors got the game winning goal making it 4-3 for Mitchell. It was a great game going back-and-forth, but an unfortunate loss for the Storm. Action for the Storm Atom AE continues tomorrow at the Plex versus Zurich Thunder at 12:30 PM. See you there!
