Atom AE Storm WOAA Playoffs
Saugeen Shores Storm AE travelled to Arthur this past Friday for an away match up against the Arthur Vipers for a puck drop at 7:00pm.  The Arthur team is not in our loop.

The game started a little off with a broken Zamboni and no flood was offered for the Atom teams.   Although conditions weren’t ideal the Storm came out to play hockey!  Throughout the first period the Storm was able to account for 3 goals to the Vipers 2 where the teams looked to be fairly evenly matched.  The Vipers played with peculiar style leaving one man on our blue line for the majority of the game, disrupting gameplay to some extent.   After two periods the game was Saugeen shores 4, Vipers 3.  The third period took a turn for the worse with the Vipers capitalizing with their cherry picker and managed to net 5 goals.  They walked away from the Storm leaving them with an 8-4 loss. This was disappointing for the Storm as the team realized that the efforts put forth were not a good example of what this team is made of.  Better luck next time.

Onto game three of the WOAA’s against Listowel.  The game played today was a much better example of the Storms competitive play.  Both teams have matched up against each other through the regular season, and were looking for a win.  Much better gameplay from the Storm was observed, although still room for improvement at this point in the season.

Period one of this game put the Storm on the board with a 1-0 lead compliments of Ozzie with an unassisted goal.  A busy second period was witnessed with both goalies taking on a number of difficult shots and near misses, however two of Listowel’s goals managed to squeak in and Brandon Embro tied up the game for the Storm at 2 before the end of the second.   Part way through the third period Brodie Palinsky got the go ahead goal assisted by Charlie and Cameron.  For his second of the game at the 5 minute mark in the third Ozzie Alpaugh sealed the deal making the score 4-2 in favour of the Storm.  Hunter Palinsky was awarded the assist for this goal.  The kids battled on both ends right up until the buzzer sounded, but even with a sixth skater and an empty net, the Storm fought off Listowel AE and secured the win at 4-2.  Great game boys!!

Next match up takes place Saturday February 25th against Minto Mad Dogs for a 1:15 puck drop on Home ice at the Plex.

As always, come and cheer on the Atom AE Storm!!
