Playoff Hockey
Submitted By Ray Hall on Tuesday, February 16, 2010
Entertainment at its best! Two teams who beat each other during the regular season and ended up with comparable records played great playoff hockey on Tuesday night at The Plex with Arran-Elderslie winning the rubber match with a 5 to 3 score. Arran went up 2 zip early in the first only to have Scotiabank's Desmond Gouin and Reed Stauffer come back with two of their own before the period ended. Early in the second Arran again went ahead but Scotiabank refused to throw in the towel, just missing tying it up on chance after chance. Early in the third they were rewarded for their hard work when Desmond scored his second goal and the game was knotted at 3. The skating of the team as a whole, and the composure of the defence pairings of Hunter Barnard and Blake Shields, and Jack Evans and Josh Johnson had everyone cheering with excitement. Each of the three lines had chances to be heroes but in the dying minutes Arran pulled a rabbit out of the hat and scored the winning goal on a beautiful shot to the top corner. Scotiabank pulled their goalie for an extra attacker but Arran-Elderslie scored into an empty net with one second remaining. Goalie Ayden Young stood tall and made sure his team stayed in the game throughout with some excellent saves. The ones that beat him were good ones. Our team Digger Award on this night went to defenceman Josh Johnson. The third game of our round-robin series is Friday 19 Feb at 5:45 at The Plex vs the league's 1st place winner Saugeen Shores Team #3.
