Season Ends For Scotiabank Novices
Submitted By Ray Hall on Wednesday, March 24, 2010
Scotiabank Novices lost their last game of the season by a score of 5 – 2 Wednesday night at The Coliseum. The Arran-Elderslie Ice-Dogs Team #1 captured the White Division Championship with the winning and consolation medals awarded on the ice by Kaye Holmes, Convenor of the WOAA Novice LL North Division.

The Ice-Dogs opened the scoring with 3 1/2 minutes remaining in what was an exciting first period of play. Just after the midway mark of the second period the visitors scored again to go up by two, but moments later Kaya Hall went the length of the ice to bring Scotiabank within one. On the ensuing faceoff the Ice-Dogs were assessed a tripping penalty giving the Scotiabank's come-back a helping hand.  Unfortunately two short-handed goals in less than a minute brought quiet to the home side cheering section.  But not for long, as Scotiabank wouldn't quit and continued to apply presssure.  All three forward lines had glorious scoring chances.  The line of Colby Ritchie, Desmond Gouin, and Eric Johnson were on fire; Austin Belanger, Teena Ritchie and Eoin Mackay were not without their own chances; and Drew Besito, Kaya Hall, and Spencer Sutter-Lammie seemed to be always on the puck.  Early in the third the Ice-Dogs again made their opportunity count with a good shot on a broken play that goalie Ayden Young had no chance on. In fact the defence of Jack Evans, Blake Shields, Reed Stauffer, Josh Johnson, and Hunter Barnard and goalie Ayden Young all played with focus and determination. Especially when the Ice-Dogs' Jordon Osborne was on the ice.  In four previous games against Scotiabank, Jordon had 10 goals and 3 assists; tonight he was held off the scoresheet. Correction, he received a penalty. So, mission accomplished, the problem was the rest of the Ice-Dogs didn't cooperate. With almost four minutes to go in the game, Scotiabank pulled their goalie and played about two minutes with an extra attacker but just couldn't get lucky. Ayden was sent back in net on the fly and on the same sequence Austin Belanger hammered home a rebound by Reed Stauffer before the final buzzer. Good Season Scotiabank. There were no tears, only fifteen hockey players with smiles. PRICELESS!
