2013-2014 Saugeen Shores Chris Knott Memorial Tournament

 

TOURNAMENT RULES

 

1. All OMHA rules apply. All referee calls are final. Tournament Director reserves the right to make decisions regarding interpretations of rules and regulations and as such all decisions will be final.

 

2. All players and team officials must have approved OMHA cards for the current year. If not registered with OMHA, the team must provide permission from their governing league in the form of a letter with their cards.

 

3. Teams must register (1) one hour before their first game time. Tournament conveners will supervise the signing of tournament player list prior to first game time.

 

4. Teams must be ready to start the game up to 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled time. Teams unable to make the starting time will forfeit the game.  EXCEPTION:  No team will have start times less than 3 hours apart.

 

5. Preliminary games will follow a 10-10-10 minute period format. Elimination games will follow a 10-10-15 minute format. The Tournament Director reserves the right to modify the format as necessary to meet the schedule timeframe.

 

Time Outs

6. Each Team will be allowed one 30 second time-out per game.

 

Mercy Rule

7. A five goal lead in any period will invoke the mercy rule. The clock will be run straight time until the five goal lead no longer exists. A two minute penalty during mercy rule play will be recorded on the clock as 3 minutes.

 


Overtime

8. There will not be overtime for the round robin games.

 

9. All elimination games will be played until a victory is established.  In the event of a tie game after regulation time:

 

·         A five minute stop-time sudden death overtime period will be played with 4 skaters per team.

 

·         If still tied, a three player shootout will occur. If still tied, one player from each team who has not yet shot will shoot until the tie is broken.

 

·         If a penalty carries over into overtime, the teams will play 4 on 3 until the end of the penalty, at which time they will play 4 on 4. 

 

Game Awards

10. For every game in the tournament, the coaching staff of each team will select a game MVP from the opposing team. Teams will line up on their own blue line after each game while the MVP from each team is awarded by their respective coaching staff.

 

11.  Awards will be presented to the Champions and Finalists of each division, unless otherwise stated in the division specific rules.

 

Round Robin Points System

12. The winning team will be awarded two points. If the score is tied after regulation time, each team will be awarded one point. No points will be awarded for a loss.

 

13. Teams will play within their Group during the initial round of the tournament. Ranking within the Group is based on total points. In the event of a tie after the Round Robin games are complete, the following rules will be used in sequence to determine the rankings:

 

·         Head to head game winner

 

·         If a tie still exists, then team “goals for/against average” will be used.  GFA% will be calculated by using the formula:  GF/(GF + GA)

 

·         If a tie still exists, the time of the earliest goal scored in their respective first game will establish group ranking.

 

·         If there was no scoring in the game, the result will be determined by a coin toss.

 

14. Tournament Regulations: If any team player and/or team official receives a game or gross misconduct during the tournament game, the team player or team official is automatically suspended for the remainder of the tournament.

 

15. Ice resurfacing will take place at the end of each game. The timing of floods may be changed throughout the tournament at the discretion of the Tournament Director. Teams will be ready to proceed onto the ice immediately after the end of the preceding game and ice resurfacing. There will be a three (3) minute warm-up.

 

16. Team officials are responsible for their player’s actions both on the ice and off the ice.

 

17. Teams must bring two (2) sets of sweaters. In case of conflicting sweaters, the visiting team will change.

 

18. Home teams will be designated by the tournament committee.

 

19. A team failing to appear will forfeit their entry fee.

 

20. Starting line-ups will be waived.

 

Division Specific Rules:

 

Novice Rep Division:

·         Round robin will consist of 3 games for each team

·         Team Rank #2 (Home) will playoff against Team #3 (Away)

·         Winner will then play Team #1(Home) for the championship.

 

Atom AE Division:

·         Round Robin will consist of two groups of 3 teams (A and B). 

·         Group A Team Rank #2 (Home) will playoff against Group B Team Rank #3 (Away) in elimination game 1.  Group B Team Rank #2 (Home) will playoff against Group A Team Rank #3 (Away) in elimination game 2. 

·         Winner of elimination game 1 (Away) will play Group B Team Rank #1 (Home).  Winner of elimination game 2 (Away) will play Group A Team Rank #1 (Home).

·         Championship game will be held between the winners.  Home team will be decided by a coin toss.

 

DRESSING ROOM CONDUCT

The tournament committee is requesting the assistance of team officials to help keep the dressing rooms tidy at the conclusion of each game. Please encourage your players to use the waste containers.
