Saugeen Shores Banatm LL#1 Earn "Runner Up" Medals in Mooretown Over The Weekend
Saugeen Storm Bantam LL #1, sponsored by Gord’s Imprints and Design, battled hard over the weekend in Mooretown for the Rise Up Cup Tournament. It was certainly a busy weekend as the team played 6 hard fought games to reach the Tournament Championship.

In Round Robin play the Storm played to a 2-0-1 record earning them top seed in their respective pool scoring 10 goals and only allowing 2.
In the quarter finals the team once again played a fantastic game.  With some good puck movement and great team work they managed a 5-0 victory and a birth in the semi final game.
The semi final game the team stuck to their game plan and once again shutout their opponents with a 4-0 victory punching their ticket to the Championship Finals.

In the Championship game the Storm found themselves facing off against the New Hamburg Huskies.  However this game did not start off the way the Storm would have liked and found themselves down 3-0 after the first period.  The fans rallied behind their team and really started cheering loud for them and the team seemed to start gaining ground winning battles for pucks and getting back to their game plan. Every defensive play and shot on net the crowed got louder and louder making for a very exciting environment. Clawing back into the game inch by inch the Storm found themselves in a 3-1 game heading into the third.  With every shift the Storm seemed to be gaining ground on the Huskies and before we knew it we had a 3-2 game with the momentum behind us.  The Huskies however managed to double up the Storm off a rebound attempt making it a 4-2 game.  As the third period was winding down the Storm were able pull their goalie for an extra attacker around the 1:20 left and with 50 seconds left in the game we found the back of the net making it 4-3 game.  Getting the puck deep shortly after the face off the Storm once again where able to get the extra attacker out in the Huskies zone. With a last second desperate shot attempt the puck crossed the line with 0.5 seconds left in the period. The bench erupted as the players celebrated as well as our fans in the stands.  Up next was 5 minutes of 4on4 overtime.  Both teams earning some good looks in OT but each teams goalie was solid in net.  Then the Storm took a penalty with 1:56 left in the extra period leaving them short handed the rest of playing time.  They managed to hold off the Huskies and even earned a decent scoring chance shorthand to take the Championship to a shootout decision.  Unfortunely the Huskies got us in the shootout and the Storm had to settle for the “Runner Up” Medals in an epic Championship game.
This was truly a fantastic tournament experience for the team as they learned a lot about themselves and as a team.   I would like to thank our fans for cheering very loudly and encouraging us to keep going on every great play that was made.  The Coaching Staff are very proud of the players for leaving it all out on the ice in the Championship.
