Midget B's Reach Semis in Back to Back Tourneys
The Nicol Insurance Storm Midget Bs travelled to Paris this past weekend (Nov30) to take part in the Art Coombs Memorial Tournament.  After coming off a semi-final finish in the Wingham Regional Silver Stick a few weeks ago, the team once again played their hearts out and provided the fans in attendance with some amazing hockey.

The highlight of the weekend was the final game of the round robin against the host team Paris Wolfpack. The game was a “must win” for the Storm to earn a spot in the semi-finals on Sunday and the Wolfpack were determined to ensure that didn’t happen, scoring on the first shift of the game, and taking a 4-0 lead after the first frame. The deficit would have seemed insurmountable for some teams, but not these boys.

After some motivational words of encouragement from the coach during the first intermission, the Storm mounted a comeback for the ages, scoring 4 unanswered goals over the next two periods.
Then, with 3 minutes left in the third, Storm defenceman Hunter Cannon stepped in from the point and buried the winner sending the Storm to the semi-finals to face the Mitchell Meteors.

Sunday’s semi-final game was equally as exciting. With Mitchell taking an early 1-0 lead, the Storm battled back once again to tie it up late in the third and send the game to overtime. The first two overtime periods, 4 on 4 and then 3 on 3 solved nothing.  The third and final overtime period, a thrilling two minutes of 2 on 2 hockey, looked like it was also going to end in a tie, but the Meteors ended the Storm’s remarkable run with the game winner with less than one second remaining.

All in all, it was a great tournament experience that the players and parents won’t soon forget.
