Girls International Silver Stick Finals
The countdown is on for the Girls International Silver Stick Finals - The Caitlyn Cobean Memorial Hockey Tournament.

The Saugeen Shores Storm is honoured to be hosting the tournament February 2-February 4, 2018 at the Port Elgin, Southampton, Tiverton and Paisley Arenas.

The Bantam C, Pee Wee C and Atom C girls are gearing up for “A FUN CHALLENGE”, and we need your support to ensure the success of paying it forward.  Lauren MacDonald sent out a challenge on behalf of her Bantam C hockey family to her fellow Pee Wee C and Atom C teams. Her challenge was to encourage all 3 of the participating Storm teams to come up with a creative way to raise money during the tournament to donate to Caitlyn Cobean's Crusaders in memory of Caitlyn.

For those of you who might not be familiar with Caitlyn's story, Caitlyn was an avid hockey player and also part of the growing Girls Storm Hockey family. She was a team leader, a friend to all, and had a positive, caring infectious attitude and a true zest for life both on and off the ice. Caitlyn was diagnosed with brain cancer in January 2007. At the age of 15, on August 9th, 2008 Caitlyn sadly passed.

Caitlyn's parents, Rona and Jim, along with family and friends, founded Caitlyn Cobean’s Community Crusaders in loving memory of Caitlyn. It is a special group of dedicated individuals who do amazing things in honour of Caitlyn. The Crusaders are dedicated to help, support and improve the lives of other families whose children have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. The Crusaders work in support of Tara Boom Houston Children’s Foundation (TBHCF), serving Southwestern Ontario, including Grey and Bruce Counties.  The Cobean family is actively involved within our community and this yearly Silver Stick Memorial Tournament. Rona is an active Silver Stick Committee Member.

Lauren’s challenge was happily accepted and very well received by all the girls. The girls are excited to be able to help pay it forward. The Bantam Girls are crafting lava bead bracelets.  Lava beads are designed to use with your favourite essential oils, oils that can uplift, calm, ground, energize, motivate or help balance. The choices are endless. The bracelets are priced at $15.00 each.

The Atom Girls decided to sell organic lip balm. They will be selling 2 different flavour options and are yours to take home for $5.00/tube.  All proceeds from these sales will go directly to Caitlyn’s Crusaders. Both of these teams can be found upstairs at the Plex Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Pee Wee Girls took to a different idea in raising money ahead of the Silver Stick weekend by organizing a bottle drive. The bottle drive is being held SATURDAY, JANUARY 20, 2018 from 1-3pm at the Southampton Coliseum. Bottles can be dropped off at the Northeast corner of the Coliseum.

Many hands make light work. Together we accomplish more and as a team these girls will continue to rise above in unity, empower one another and lift each other up while helping others.

Come on out to the Rotary Hall (upstairs at the Plex in Port Elgin) during Silver Stick February 2-4 2018 to help us CRUSH our challenge by selling out and helping us to maximize our profits for donating back to an amazing organization.

Come on out and cheer our girls on, both on and off the ice and support a very worthy cause! Sharing is Caring.

Yours in Hockey, Emily Martindale
