Dogs no Match as Legion Peewee's win pair and put together season's first winning streak

Storm hang first loss on previously undefeated Minto Mad Dogs on the road, avenging earlier season loss, then dominate Arran-Elderslie Ice Dogs at home.

Wednesday, November 12th marked the Storm’s first regular season rematch game of the 2014-15 season on the road in Harriston, versus the undefeated Mad Dogs. The team was determined to avenge their earlier season home loss and exact revenge in their opponent’s arena. It was evident that on this night a different effort was going to be put forth by the visiting Storm. Early first period action had the visitor’s dominating play in the Minto zone. Midway through the 1st,  with Jake Condy serving a questionable holding call on his own partial breakaway, Dane Heipel found the back of the net on the penalty kill after stripping the Minto defenseman of the puck, picking up the loose puck and firing a high Howitzer over the goalie’s blocker. The Storm would continue with their relentless pressure and jump out to a 3-0 1st period lead by adding goals by Jason Taylor, with assists to Zahne Barton and Brady Moulton, and by Skylar Pomeroy with her 1st of two on the night, with Moulton assisting again. The Peewees kept their 3 goal lead heading into the 3rd frame after both teams each added 2 goals. The Saugeen Shores goals were scored by Pomeroy and Condy. The 3rd period required the Storm to go into full survival mode as the home side turned up the pressure. Minto scored early in the period ratcheting up the tension, making it 5-3. James Fowler scored less than a minute later off a fluke play. Heipel fired his shot wide of the net. With Fowler crashing the other side of the net on his knees, the puck took a friendly bounce off the end boards and ricocheted off the shaft of Fowler’s stick into the wide open net. The Mad Dogs made a heroic effort in trying to pull even, scoring 2 more goals to make it a 6-5 nail-biter. The Storm was able to hang on for the victory though after some terrific timely saves by netminder Tanner Bromfield, securing the victory.

Saturday’s home game (Nov. 15) was never the pressure cooker game that was Wednesday’s game. The visiting Arran Elderslie Ice Dogs couldn’t keep up with the skating by the hometown Storm, not with the team’s line of Fowler, Heipel and Condy firing on all cylinders. The trio were in on 10 of the team’s 11 points in the game, led by Heipel’s 2-goal, 2-assist effort. The home squad coasted to a relatively easy 4-2 victory, out shooting the opposition 41-17. Goaltender Jarrett Blue was sensational in net making big saves in spite of facing little action.  It was as though the Storm were channeling the Owen Sound Attack, who the team would later that day go watch and cheer on as they dismantled the visiting London Knights. Other goal scorer’s for the Storm were Condy and Spencer “the Bulldog” Lammie, who played his signature type game of relentless puck pursuit and fore-checking game.

The Storm next play in their annual Chris Knott Tournament on Friday versus heated rival Kincardine. Good luck team and Go Storm Go!!
