A Winning Weekend for the Saugeen Storm Novice Reps
On Saturday, November 15th, the Mount Forest Rams travelled to the Southampton Colosseum  to face the Storm.

Play during the first period was fast and furious, with no whistles stopping play.  Despite a few good scoring chances for the Storm, the period ended with no score.

During the second period, the Storm continued to maintain possession and put pressure on the Ram’s goalie.  Great passes by defensemen, Lucas Harris and Austin Dunlop, and rushes by Sean Moorehead and Jason Legge, set up several scoring opportunities for the Storm.  However, the period ended with the Ram’s and Storm still tied at 0-0.

Play at the start of the third period saw defenseman, Jason Legge, rip a wicked shot, which beat the goalie but was deflected by the crossbar to keep the score at zero.  The Storm were finally able to make one stick five minutes into the third period.  A sweet deke by Liam Doherty, bested Mount Forest’s goalie, bringing the score to 1-0 for the Storm.  An assist on the goal went to defenseman, Lucas Harris.    A minute and a half later, forward Chad Lawrence, made a great backhand shot on a puck from defenseman, Austin Dunlop, making the final score 2-0 for the Storm.

The team travelled to Goderich, on Sunday, November 16th, to face the Sailors in regular league play.  The Storm began the scoring early in the first period, with goals by both Sean Moorehead and Dustin Heipel coming within the first two minutes of play.

Despite the Storm maintaining control of the puck for the majority of the second period, the Sailor’s were able to score during the last five minutes, to make the score 2-1 for the Storm.  Minutes later, Dustin Heipel scored on a rush, ending the scoring for the second period.

Despite a strong effort during their first two period, the Sailor’s had difficulty stopping the Storm’s offensive machine during the third period.  Veterans Dustin Heipel and Luke Thornley each scored once during the period, while Jason Legge and Malachi McKinnon each scored twice.  Saugeen Shores left the Goderich Memorial Arena with a 9-1 win.  Hats off to Dustin Heipel for his first hat trick of the season!
