Fantastic Silver Stick Weekend
The Silver Stick Hockey Tournament was a huge success for 2 local teams that won their division, congratulations to the Novice C girls coached by Chris Hall and the Pee Wee C team coached by by Bruce Ribey. Even though our Bantam girls did not reach the playoffs for this event we made a strong showing against the toughest competition we have faced this year.

Our first game was against Lucknow/ Wingham and we had a great start, Sarah Bester put us on the board with a 1st period goal. The score remained 1-0 until half way through the 3rd period when the visitors finally solved Tiffany Kewagishig and found the back of our net 3 times. On Sat. we traveled to Tiverton to take on the Sarnia Lady Sting.
We never found a gear that could match the Sarnia team's speed. We managed to stay in the game down only 1-0 but could not generate a scoring chance to tie it up before Sarnia put us away with a second goal. That was all the scoring. We certainly found out alot about our girls from their 3rd game. Even though we could not move on to the semis our team was determined to win a game. It would have been so easy to just mail one in and get ready for our next game, these girls don't think that way though. They played this game with as much heart as any championship team could. I for one could not have been more proud! Once again Sarah Bester opened the scoring only to have Walkerton tie the game shortly after. With the game tied mid way through the 3rd, Nicki Walker tipped a pass that sent Abby Acton on a clear break away. She made no mistake and found the 5 hole to put us back in front, this time for good. Our team's defence are probably black and blue from blocking shots, as Kelly Robertson, Taylor Ferguson, Kenzie Hall and Ainsly Herron put a wall up in  front of our net to keep the tieing goal out. These girls don't get the credit they deserve but anyone who saw the game would appreciate   the job they did keeping things open for our goalie to make some fantastic saves. Tiff was the player of the game, and rightfully so, as she held the fort as the visitors pushed to tie it up. It doesn't get any easier for us as the play offs start this week. On  Wed. night we travel to Teeswater to face a very rugged South Bruce Girls team. We have 2 wins and a loss against them this season, but that is no guarentee for success, we will need another full team effort. Give it your best girls and the results will follow! Go Storm.
