South-Port Optimist Tournament Silver Medalists
Passing + Positioning = First Win

9 goals were scored by the Atom Storm players in the 1st game against Tiverton in the South-Port Optimist Atom Tournament on Saturday, February 22nd. It turns out that the team shines at 8:00 am. To open up the Storm’s early lead, Centre Ethan Walsh scored only 3 minutes into the first period. Ethan ended the game on a high note as well, securing our 9th goal. Nice hands Ethan! Huge celebrations broke out when Riley McMillian scored this first goal of the season. His hockey career is off to a great start. Excellent positioning provided his scoring chance. Super job Riley! Quinn Fowler and Paydon Ritchie supported their teammates with great passes and defensive plays. Camden Ritchie showed some great strategies carrying the puck up the ice. Way to take charge Camden! Braydyn Roote provided solid defence to support goalie Kaden Vance who celebrated a shut-out. Kaden was still going strong in the 3rd period with a huge BEAR-PAW-GLOVE-GRAB shutting down the Tiverton attack. Braden Kahgee was ON FIRE and racked up a Hat Trick scoring our 2nd goal, then 12 seconds later easily popping in our 3rd of the game. In the third period he put our 8th goal on the board. It was exciting to watch Braden’s quick feet and smart stick-handling. Tehya Johnson had a few great dumps to set up the play. Tehya fought hard all game to keep the play in the Tiverton end. A great effort from start to finish. Jack Bennett, Aiden de Vries and Liam Kelly also got the puck past the Tiverton goaltender. Taking control of the puck and shooting with confidence paid off for these boys in this game. Storm players were stoked to secure the win. Speed + Strength = Second Win In our second game of the tournament Braden showed fancy footwork, Paydon foiled monster attacks, Ethan demonstrated quick turns and great skating skills, & Teyha took a strong shot only to be saved by the Sailors net-minder. Jack Attack! Taking initiative to skate the puck up the ice, Jack poured on the speed which resulted in several shots on net. WOW! Aiden de Vries showed his skill scoring our first goal at 4:32 in the first period. Ending the first period in a 1:1 tie the Storm team needed to pull ahead. Liam Bulldozer Kelly did not disappoint the fans; true to his nickname Liam pushed and pushed at the live puck at the goal line to hammer the puck into the Goderich net bringing the score to 2:1. Great digging for the puck by Ismail Sirdar and Riley McMillan! Defending the net is the responsibility of the entire team…forwards steal the puck and control the play, defensemen shut down attacks from the opposition with back-checking and clearing the puck from their end. A strong defensive game supports the goalie and heads off as many shots-on-net as possible. Braydyn Roote and Camden Ritchie worked hard to keep the puck away from the Storm net. Kaden Vance showed his agility this game with sliding saves and good stick control to block shots. Only one goal passed the goal line in the Storm net. Storm celebrated their second tournament (and season) win with a final score of 2:1. Storm advanced to the final vs. Oakville. Storm + Stamina = Silver Medal The third and last game of the tournament for the Storm resulted in the Silver Medal. Great effort throughout the tournament by Storm players, excellent sportsmanship and team spirit! The team who travelled from the farthest faced the home team for a hard-fought game. Oakville proved to be a challenging opponent taking lots of shots on net despite the best attempts from Storm players to block attacks. Storm players and fans celebrated the Silver. Great Job kids!
