2014 Teeswater Tournament
The LL4 Masie Trelford 'McNuggets' had  a very long and exciting day of hockey on Sunday, February 2nd. Our second tournament this year was played at the Teeswater Culross Complex where eight teams from the area gathered to play some competitive hockey.

Our day started out early, packing food and essentials for the fun filled day of hockey.  on the road shortly after 7am we travelled to Teeswater to meet up with all of the members of our team.  The team was focused and determined right from the start and this could be seen by the storm outfitted players, Will's shirt and tie and Tyler's blue Mohawk.  Now could we play as good as we looked?

Our first game against Howick Hornets started at 9:20am and proved to be an eye opener.  This was a real competition, battling back and forth for the puck and scoring opportunities.  Nothing shy of a "great game" can be said.  Our sharply dressed Will put the puck past the Hornets goalie four times and Liam added another two.  Tyler and Brandon each got an assist for the game.  The McNuggets played great and as a team.  We tally up the first game at a 6-5 win over the Hornets.  Hoping that the refereeing gets better at this point!!!

The most valuable player (MVP) from each team was selected by a crew of judges for each game played.  This MVP earned a nice Teeswater tournament trophy with their name engraved onto the placard.  There were no doubts that our first game MVP trophy went to Will not for looking so good but for sinking four goals during the game and making him our most valuable player.  Great game Will!!

The team had plenty of time to have an early lunch, watch some hockey and have some bonding time in the room set up at the Culross Complex,  outfitted with more hockey nets and a place to have some down time.

Onto the second game of the day, held at 1:40pm we faced off against the Teeswater Otters.  This game proved to be more difficult, but at least we only had to battle the team and not the referees.  Such a tight match and many missed opportunities.  The game ended in our favour with the Teeswater team pulling their goalie late into the third to try to tie up the game , which they were unsuccessful.

Winning 5-4 over the Teeswater team was definitely a highlight of this tournament.  Lucas scored four of the LL4 McNuggets goals and Liam got the fifth.  Assists went to Emmett, Nicholas, Zac, William and Kaiden.  Keeping the black rubber disc out of our net Lucas McCulloch did a fabulous job.  For this he was rewarded a trophy for MVP for the second game of the series.  This win put us into the final championship game to be played against the Ayr Flames.

Another having another meals and some more down time, the McNuggets got dressed and were back on the ice at 6:45pm.  The tournament was running a little behind at this point.  The kids were still very eager, however getting tired as most has started the day 12 hours prior.

Game three was against the Ayr Flames and did not have the same feel as the previous two games. Poor refereeing was back and one dominant player in the opposition was enough for our kids to feel defeated.  We struggled to make headway, and when we did we were easily chastised by the ref's.  Losing to the Ayr Flames, and the ref's (they must be included in the battle) we lost 9-3.

Honorable mentions for this game are William getting one goal and one assist, Liam with two goals, Lucas with one assist, Zac with an assist and Parker also with an assist.  Liam got MVP for the game and added another trophy to his collection.  Great good Liam!!

Overall the entire Teeswater tournament was a great success and a great experience.  Losing a final championship game to poor refereeing and one dominant player is nothing to be upset about.  The McNuggets played the best hockey to date, and should be very proud to come in second place out the eight teams in this tournament.

Great job McNuggets we are so proud of you all!!!

Our next game is a make up game on the road against AEMHA Ice Dogs at the Paisley Community Centre.  The game will be played Wednesday February 6th at 6:00pm.  Good luck everyone!!!

The next game is our last regular season game.  This game will take place Saturday, February 8th at 10am.  We will travel to the Shallow Lake Community Centre to play the Shallow Lake Lakers 1 team.
