Arran-Elderslie Consolation Trophy for LL3
Novice Saugeen Shores Local League #3 Wins Consolation Trophy in Arran-Elderslie Tournament, Saturday, Jan 11, 2014
The SS Novice LL#3 had a great day as one of 3 entrants from Saugeen Shores in the Arran-Elderslie Hockey Tournament held in Tara this past Saturday.  The day started with a bit of a sleep in as the team had a buy in the first round, although most of the kids were much too excited to sleep in, all wound up for their team’s first tourney of the year.

Our first game at noon was against a very strong Walkerton Capital team who had already won their first game by a decisive 6-1 victory over another of the Saugeen Shores entrants.  LL#3 played so well as a team in both ends of the rink.  It was a back and forth game with some incredible saves by both goalies. As time ticked away in the third period we found ourselves in a 2-2 tie.  Devin Billings had a last second rush down the ice and put the puck in the net just as time expired but the goal was promptly waved off by the official. The results of the shoot-out did not go in our favor and LL#3 was off to the consolation side. Olivia Pope would take home game MVP as awarded by the opponents.
Just a short break for pizza and the games continued, at 2pm LL#3 would face the host team of Arran-Eldersly, whom we had just faced the previous Sunday in Paisley.  The team was all smiles and maintained a great attitude heading into game 2 and it remained a close match until into the second period when LL#3 would start to fire on all cylinders. We would open up a comfortable lead and take the game 7-1. Andrew Grant took home MVP.
Just a quick few minutes in the dressing room while they flooded the rink and right back at it in the finals against a familiar opponent - Saugeen Shores LL#4.  We had faced them many times this season with the win/loss record pretty even. Both teams again play outstanding hockey and it was again a back and forth game with no one giving an inch until Hunter Campbell would net the tying goal (incidentally as his mother Mary stepped back into the arena just in time to see him raise his arms). I guess Hunter figured he would have to get another one for her to see and not long after potted the eventual game winner. The final score was 4-3 for us. LL#3 were all smiles as they accepted their medals and the trophy and posed for team pictures.  Jack Van Geel was the game MVP.  The teams enjoyed more great fun at the impromptu after tourney party at the Queens.
Congrats to Saugeen Shores LL#3 for their great play this past weekend!!!
