Saugeen Storm#1, Cason Supply / Foodland, Open with Playoff games 1&2
Saugeen Storm#1, Cason Supply / Foodland, Open with Playoffs with games 1 against Shallow Lake Lakers 1 and Saugeen Storm#2.

Game 1 vs The Lakers #1

The puck drops and the playoffs have begun, both teams got off to a good start as they are both great skating teams with some great goaltenders.  The game was back and forth until the Lakers managed to open the scoring at 4:38 of the first.  That didn’t last long as Austin D made a great rush for the net and was hauled down as he broke free for the breakaway and a penalty shot was awarded.  Although he looked nervous Austin D made no mistake and fired a wrist shot into the top blocker corner to tie the game up for his team.   The score would remain 1 all at the end of the first.

Going into the second both teams continued to battle hard for the puck.  Our centers, Nick and Ian were all over the ice working hard trying to help get the puck out and create scoring chances.  The wingers, Brennan, Lucas, Jerri, Logan and Rhys were playing really hard as well. Really working hard to get the puck out of our end and pressuring the Lakers in theirs.  As usual the defense core, Austin D, Andy, Talan, and Andrew were solid in both ends of the ice as well, and always moving the puck up the ice and taking a few breaks with it themselves when they could.  The biggest story is the glove of Jimmy in net making some great saves on the Lakers for his team and making it look like no big deal.  The Lakers did manage to beat him in the last minute of the period which put them up 2-1 over the Storm.

The third period was a battle just like the rest with both teams skating very well and going after the puck well.  The game was back and forth until Nick broke free and scored an unassisted beauty past the Lakers Goalie to tie it up at 2 each with 4:38 left in the third.  As the score remained unchanged at the end of the third we saw our first Sudden Death OT period.  This means the first team to score wins the game so the Storm players knew they had to work hard here.  Well did they delivered alright with Brennan passing puck up to Andrew on the blueline as he skated in, took a shot that the Lakers goalie just couldn’t handle and laied in the crease.  Just like he had been doing all game Lucas went to the net looking for the rebound and found the goal that won his team the game, and the players jumped out of the bench in celebration with big hugs for Jimmy and Lucas.

Great game team as everyone worked hard, Jimmy was given a huge round of applause for his great efforts in net and Lucas was the recipient of th Digger Award for his hard work all game and always looking for those rebounds in front of the net.   Congrats Lucas!!!

Game 2 at Saugeen Storm#2

Knowing that Storm#2 finished first in the regular season standings the Storm#1 knew they had to work hard as usual for this game.  As the game got underway it was evident that both these teams were great at battling and skating.   It was team Storm#2 that opened the scoring early in the first at 8:48 of the period.  This didn’t damaged the spirit of Storm #1 as they came right back as Ian fired a shot on net from the slot to even the score at 1 each at 7:56 of the period.

The Storm #1 players looked great as Ian and Nick continued to be great in all areas of the Ice.  The Wingers, Rhys, Logan, Lucas, Brennan and Jerri were battling hard for loose puck and always there to support getting the puck out of our end.    The defense, Talan, Andrew, Andy and Austin D were great at shutting down the Storm#2 forwards and always holding the blueline.

The two Storm teams battled a tied score late into the third when Storm #2 managed to get a one at 3:08, and 1:08 of the period.  These two late goals didn’t allow Storm#1 a chance to come back but was a great effort by the team all game.

Ian was awarded the Digger Award for his hard work all game and always challenging the other teams players when they had the puck.  Good effort out there team!!!!
