The Saugeen Shores Storm Midget Girls C team (sponsored by Giant Tiger and Queen’s Bar & Grill) started their 2012-2013 season with two wins, two losses, and two ties. To summarize the first six games; both wins were shut-outs by Storm goalie Bryanna Cobean, both defeats were close one goal losses to higher caliber B teams, and the Brown sisters (McKenzie and Delaney) provided the majority of the team offense.
The Storm’s season opener was a 3-2
loss to the TCDMHA Rebels B team in Chatsworth.
Saugeen Shores fought hard all game and Cobean stopped her fair share of
rubber to keep the score close. With the
score tied 1-1 going into the third period, TCDMHA netted a couple quick goals
to put them ahead 3-1. Storm scored late
in the third to make it a one goal game, and pulled their goalie for an extra
attacker in the last minute of the game but was unable to pot the tying goal.
Delaney Brown scored both of Storm’s goals with Sam Harvie assisting on her
second tally.
The Storm played their home opener against the
Owen Sound Ice Hawks, and got their first win of the season by a score of
4-0. Harvie scored the first two goals
of the game with assists going to Teaghan Johnston and McKenzie Brown. McKenzie Brown scored the final two goals
with assists going to Sabrina Goegan and Jocelyn Parker. The defensive tandem of Emma DeBoer and Leah
Tuck helped Storm goalie Cobean get her first shutout of the season.
The
Storm’s next game was against the West Grey Wildcats, which they won 3-0. The Storm drastically outshot the other team
throughout the game, but couldn’t get a puck past the West Grey goalie until
the third period. McKenzie Brown finally
broke the 0-0 tie with an unassisted marker.
Rayne Crosetta scored soon after to make it 2-0, assisted by
Harvie. Delaney Brown finished out the
scoring assisted by Johnston.
The
Saugeen Shores Storm Midget Girls C team’s next opponent was the Georgian
Shores Lightning B team. McKenzie Brown scored the first goal of the game
assisted by Parker to put Storm ahead 1-0.
But the lead was short-lived as Georgian Shores scored two unanswered
goals to put Storm behind by a goal.
Once again, Storm pulled their goalie in the last minute of the game but
to no avail, and ended up losing 2-1.
The
Storm then had a rematch game against Owen Sound. The Storm team started the game very flat and
Owen Sound quickly went ahead 2-0. Storm’s Kaylee Martin had a couple chances
to put her team on the board but was stymied by the Owen Sound goalie. But the resilient Storm team battled back late
in the third period to tie the game 2-2 with goals from Johnston assisted by
McKenzie Brown and Teila Becker assisted by Samantha Albright.
The
final game of Storm’s opening six game stint was against the North Bruce
Predators. The Storm’s McKenzie Brown scored two goals in the second period, with
Crosetta assisting on both goals, to put Storm ahead 2-0. But a couple defensive breakdowns late in the
third period allowed North Bruce to score twice in the last minute to tie the
game 2-2 stealing a much deserved point from the Storm team.
