Storm #3 Open Playoffs vs Lakers #1
Saugeen Storm #3 was host to the Shallow Lake Lakers Saturday afternoon to open the round robin of the playoffs.  Storm #3 got off to a great start for the playoffs defeating The Lakers 7-4 in a great matinee matchup.

Storm #3 got off to a great start fighting for the puck, and moving into the Lakers zone.  They did such a great job of getting after the puck that they managed to draw a hooking call against the Lakers.  This allowed The Storm a chance to get an early lead and Wes did so in just less than 2 minutes into the game were he netted a beauty.  It was only a little later at 7:44, Caleb was flying into the Lakers zone, tried to blast a shot but he fanned on it a bit and somehow managed to beat the Lakers goaltender.  At this point The Storm was on fire and they kept fighting hard for the puck and going to the net where Sabra hammered home a rebound that was assisted by Liam and Caleb. The best play of the day though came 39 seconds later when the “Hound Dog” was in his favourite position (in front of the net) all alone and Caleb managed to get the puck to him.  While the “Hound Dog” put everything he could into the one timer shot that the goalie saved, he fell from the force of his shot, he saw the loose puck laying there and like the “Hound Dog” he is, he sniffed out that rebound and put her home to put his team up by 4 goals.  The Lakers did come back with a goal of their own at 2:02 of the first making the score 4-1 at period end.  The Lakers started the second period quickly by getting another puck past Andy just 18 seconds into the period, but The Storm didn’t seem to concerned as they drove the puck back into the Lakers end and make them work to try and get it out.  The puck then squirted out to the blueline where Zach kept it in by putting it on net, the “Hound Dog” picked it up and passed it to Sabra as he had no room to skate with it and Sabra being out in from all along buried another shot through the goalies legs, with Zach and the “Hound Dog” earning a great assist each on the play.   In Fact our defensemen, Zach, Jack and Devin where fantastic at breaking up any rush The Lakers managed to get and moving the puck up the boards to our forwards.  They were truly fantastic the entire game in all three zones on the ice.  Brennan was working hard for the puck and skating with it when he had a chance we saw some great drive to the net from him.  Nick was an animal looking for that first Novice goal.  He did manage to net one but it was called back, tough break for Nick but if he keeps playing like the way he did they will definitely come.  The most impressive part was the way the players were passing the puck to each other.  In fact Jack managed to score a great goal at 1:30 left in the period with a nice pass from Wes which was truly some great teamwork and we closed the second period out with a 6-2 lead.  This was another tough period for Storm players but they where ready for the challenge as they kept moving the puck out of our end in great style, the centermen, Caleb and Wes, where great at helping the defence move the puck up the boards to the wingers and getting the puck out.  The wingers Sabra, Hound Dog, Brennan, and Nick where great at fighting in the battles for pucks along the boards, and Andy made a phenomenal save off his side that could have easily been a goal.  Wes Managed to net his second of the game 6:27 with a nice assist from Nick who moved the puck up to him.  They Lakers however weren’t going down easy and managed two more makers after this to make the final score 7-4.    What a fantastic game by all the players, they have really come together as a team helping each other out and my favourite is when Andy would let a goal in the players would give him a pat on the back or tap his pads and let him know it was alright and not to worry about it.  The digger award was handed to Sabra for her great game and not to mention it was a 2 goal game for her as well.  Great work team, we will need that teamwork as our next game we face <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Owen Sound at the Bayshore 10am Saturday morning.  See you Thursday at practice.
