Saugeen Shores BDO Atom BB Week in Review
The Storm had a busy weekend with 3 games in 4 nights, this included 2 games on the road and a head to head battle with the top team in the loop. The first game Thursday night had the Storm traveling south on Hwy. 21 to do battle with Kincardine Kinucks.

The Kinucks came out right off the drop of the puck and staked themselves to an early 1-0 lead. This lasted until the half way mark of the first when Dane Heipel took a nice feed from Ray Hou to even the score 1-1. Both teams struggled back and forth until Skylar Pomroy broke the tie at 8:33 of the 2nd period on a pass from Nick Scott. The third was a wild afair with the Kinucks pulling out all the stops including pulling the goaltender for the final seconds of the game. The Storm's defence and stellar goaltending of Tanner Bromfield secured the victory, setting the stage for the weekend.

The second game Friday night in the cozy confines of the Southampton Coliseum pitted our BDO Storm against the division leading Mount Forest Rams. The Rams were in control from the start pinning the Storm in with a relentless forecheck finally cracking the Storms defence at the 2:50 mark of the first and then again at the 1:55 mark staking themselves to a 2-0 lead which was never threatened. The 2nd and 3rd periods had the Storm furiously defending and if not for Tanner Bromfield making a spectacular performance the final tally could have been worse. The Storm battled through never giving up for the 2-0 loss.

The third and final stop on this wild weekend matched the weather of the Sunday evening with the Storm blowing into Minto's home rink in Harriston. The game started with the Storm taking a lesson still fresh in thier minds from Friday night.  They were relentless on thier forecheck when Tanner Bromfield came up with not 1 but 2 saves on clear breaks giving the hard work time to pay off. Then Dane Heipel broke the 0-0 tie with 2:32 left in the first and again with :35 sec left on a helper from Austin Hagen to spot a 2-0 lead.

The second period started where the first left off, the Storm buzzing the Minto net seeing Nick Scott bang in a rebound off a Dane Heipel shot for a 3-0 lead. That same line went to work again :21 sec later with Donny Kewageshig scoring with a blast from the right face off dot having Dane Heipel and Ethan Grieg getting the helpers. Minto finally was able to stem the tide at the 5:46 mark netting its first then again with 2:34 left in the 2nd making it 4-2. The Storm not to be out done this evening hit the game winning goal with :39 sec left in the period having the line of Heipel, Scott and Kewageshig strike again with Dane Heipel netting his third with Donny Kewageshig and Nick Scott getting the assist's ending 2nd period ahead 5-2.

The last frame continued with the Storm not backing off seeing Spencer Sutter-Lammie hit pay dirt 1:40 into the final period having Dane Heipel and Austin Hagen assist; not to be left out Corey Ribey on a feed from Austin Hagen went coast to coast to make it 7-2. The Minto team never quit, scoring 2 more. The Storm then finished it off seeing Dane Heipel strike again on a pretty feed from Kaya Hall and Donny Kewagishig pot another from Nick Scott. Ending the evening as it started, Dane Heipel closed it out getting the last goal from Kaya Hall and Spencer Sutter-Lammie.  This gave the Storm a convicing 10-4 victory and finishing the weekend 2 out of 3 for 4 hard earned points.

Next for the BDO Atom's is the Strathroy tourney Nov 2-4 the team will try to take this momentum with them.
