The Saugeen Shores BDO Atoms have completed their pre-season schedule with a 3-1-2 record; this was a combination of exhibition games and an early season tournament.
The
exhibition games were a home and home with one of their regular season rivals
the Kincardine Canadian Tire Kanuck’s the first game was a fast paced 1-0
victory in the Kanuck’s home rink. The second tilt was a little more one-sided
affair having the Storm skate to a 4-0 victory. This was then followed by a
contest against a very quick Hanover Falcon squad resulting in a 4-1 home win
for the Storm.
The tournament had the Storm
swirling into Schomberg to compete in their Red and White annual. The first
game was a 2-2 draw with the Wasaga Beach Star’s the Storm peppered the Wasaga
goalie out shooting the Star’s by a wide margin but unable to capitalize on
their chances. The second game had us facing a local rival in the form of the
Goderich Sailor’s this again ended in a spirited 2-2 draw once more not able to
take advantage of some great play. The final game was against the host Red
Wing’s who came out flying jumping to an early 2-0 lead before the Storm
settled down took the play to the home town club if not for some outstanding
net minding by the Red Wing goalkeeper the Storm were only able to beat the Red
Wing keeper once. While the Storm were throwing everything but the kitchen sink
at the opposing side the Wings were able to pickup one more but were also
stymied by some brilliant goaltending by our Tourney MVP Tanner Bromfield. We
left the tourney with a 0-1-2 record and the respect of all we faced.
The team represented Saugeen Shores not only with great play and
sportsmanship the rest of the season looks to be Stormy weather for the
opposition.
