Midget C girls home opener.
The Midget C, Port Elgin Lions/Walkerhouse girls played their first league game at home this afternoon. It was a fast paced, nail-biting game as both teams had chances and the goalies were outstanding. Laura Steele had her first hat-trick of the season.
The first period was scoreless as the goalies made many saves with good defense on both teams. The second period opened with Samantha Karounos passing to Sabrina Goegan who rushed up the ice to score on a breakaway. Georgian Shores scored next on a scramble in front of the net when the puck went over the goalie and they tapped the puck in. Three minutes later, we had a breakdown of defence and Georgian Shores went ahead 2-1 to end the second period.
Three minutes into the third period, Georgian Shores scored off the face-off. Laura Steele scored next from the corner. A pass from Nicole Steele to her sister, Laura, who made no mistake by dekking the goalie and tieing the game. Georgian Shores scored next on a short breakaway but less than a minute later, Laura Steele passes to Leah Tuck who scored. Two minutes later, Georgian Shores goes ahead but Saugeen Shores Laura Steele ties it by making no mistake on a breakaway. Georgian Shores goes ahead at the 4:59 minute mark. Saugeen Shores had chances but just couldn't finish before the clock ran out.
