Storm Peewee Girls make an impact in Elmira
The Peewee girls finally found their groove as they entered the 8th Annual Woolwich Wild Peewee Girls Hockey Tournament on Saturday December 3rd.

Our Saugeen Shores Storm girls found themselves in Pool B with the Niagara Falls Purple Penguins, the Twin City Hericanes and The Grand River Mustangs.   The first game saw our girls up against a very speedy and talented team from Niagara Falls, the Purple Penguins.  Our girls played hard in the first period with outstanding defence by Kelly Robertson (#2), Mackenzie Hall (#4), Hailey Woods (#13), Rachel Kelly (#16), Ainsley Harron (#3) and Taylor Ferguson (#18) along with solid goaltending by Sarah Underwood (#19).  The Penguins solved our defensive stronghold in the second period twice.

Our Storm girls held strong for the remainder of the game, unable to solve the slight by quick footed Penguin goaltender that made some solid saves down the stretch to solidify her shutout and the Penguins 2-0 victory.   In game 2, the Storm SHOOK the Woolwich Memorial Arena with a fierce battle against the Mustangs from Grand River.  The early going was back and forth but the Storm rumbled back to a 2-1 lead after the first period with goals from Sarah Bester (#11) and Victoria Matheson (#15), after falling behind early.  Victoria’s goal became the game winner as both teams stayed off the score sheet in the second period and our girls came alive in the third with goals from Savannah Brown (#14) and Tori Sutter-Lammie (#8) to take the game and record their first win of the season in convincing fashion by a score of 4-1.   Our final game of the day put us up against some of the tallest Peewee Girls we’ve seen yet this season from the Twin City Hericanes.  Our girls took the lead with a highlight real break away goal from Amber Hou (#6) early in the second period, only to have the Hericanes tall Captain (standing nearly six feet tall) tie it up 2 minutes later.  Both teams exchanged solid scoring chances throughout the remainder of the game to finish in a 1-1 tie, which was nearly broken with a final second defensive break away rush from Hailey Woods (#13) only to hear the buzzer as she closed in on goal.   All-in-all our Saugeen Shores Storm Peewee Girls finished with 3 points or 2nd place in Pool B.  The Final was an all Niagara Falls final with our foe, the Purple Penguins falling 3-0 to the winner of Pool A, and Tournament Champion the Niagara Falls Stingrays in the evening final.  The Storm would like to thank all of the parents for their constant (and loud) encouragement and the tournament organizers for an extremely well run, glitch-free and most of all fun event.
